Most students think that to be successful in college is to get good grades, which is true. But the question is how you will attain that. There are a lot of ways to accomplish your goals and come out on top. Some may opt to talk to friends or families, but a college student needs the best and most useful information. The best way to get that is asking your own professor or an expert on the subject.
Self-efficacy is the student’s own belief of how well they can perform when it comes to their academic career. Students that exhibited high levels of academic self-efficacy excelled in their studies while maintaining a passion for college. However, students who lacked this trait were less passionate about their academic work and earned lower grades compared to their counterparts. In addition to self-motivation, researchers have also found that the expectancy theory greatly affects students in their ability to accomplish goals (Madonna 164). The expectancy theory is described as a student’s ability to make a decision that will lead to a desirable outcome for the student.
Another major factor for college success is the amount of time a student spends on their academics. Then there are others who think the value of education is a leading factor for college success. However, there are three factors that are most likely to lead to college success, Parental encouragement, the amount of time that is dedicated to studying, and the value of education Parental encouragement helps students become more successful in college because parental involvement gives the student a sense of security. The student has more confidence knowing they are not traveling though this journey alone. Parental guidance will also prevent the student from making poor choices regarding a college major.
Everyone has goals that they want to accomplish. The ability to achieve those goals is what makes someone successful, despite the amount of money earned. Looking at success through the eyes of a college student, success could be to graduate or to get a specific job. While success isn’t determined by money, for some people, success can only achieved by obtaining wealth. Regardless of how an individual defines success, in order to reach goals and become as successful as one can possibly be, attending college is essential.
College is a great place to help students explore what they want to do in the future and experience many new things. According to Rouse, “The better-educated workers not only enjoy higher income, but also better health, decreased likelihood of committing crimes and less reliance on social programs.”(Rouse Para 2) College does not only enable one to become economically successful, but it allows them to have a healthy life ahead of them. Attending college is the best way to prepare for tougher job requirements. Experts claim that even though one initially spend a large sum of money to begin a college education, he is most likely to earn it back with the increased pay he receives from having a degree. All people are not born with an innate talent so for those ordinary people to survive and to move on in this world, they need a college education.
