While deer hunters may have difficulty finding deer in the woods, the creatures still seems to love the Wisconsin roads. During October and November, we have the mating season for the deer, which will increase the activity during dusk and dawn. The deer move back and forth between their feeding and bedding areas. However, as they roam, it can cause car accidents as the deer move into the path of drivers.
According to the Department of Transportation, in 2014 alone, Wisconsin law enforcement responded to more than 18,312 accidents related to deer and motor vehicles. Dane County had the most in 2014 with more than 863 accidents because of deer, and Shawano County had the second most with 725. Statistics show that deer are the third most commonly struck objects in Wisconsin traffic accidents.

Never assume that because you saw one that you will not see another. If there is one, then you will likely find more in the area. However, if you cannot avoid hitting the deer, it is safer to hit the brakes and hit them than to swerve and attempt to miss them. If you swerve, you risk losing control of your vehicle, and you could hit another car or roll the vehicle. If you are a motorcyclist, you should exercise more caution because a deer crash can lead to serious injuries. I am studying the White-tailed Deer populations that are located at Fort Indiantown GAP Pennsylvania. This area has a diverse biome that consists of populated areas, deciduous forests, fields, waterways, and many other types of habitat. I set up my observation area in a deciduous wooded area near a stream and a small lake. I have observed deer paths in this area as well as numerous amounts of deer scat.
The firearm deer season started on Friday, November 15 1996. This was terrible for me because I had to weigh in at two o'clock for a wrestling meet at Muskegon the next day. Even though I had to drive all the way to Muskegon on Saturday morning, I could not stand the idea of not being able to sit out there in the field and just enjoy the outdoors on opening day. I was still determined not to miss opening day, since I had never missed it before. After I weighed in I said the hell with it and hopped in my car and headed for home.

Wisconsin is facing developmental problems mainly, but not limited to, the northern part of the state. People want to buy lakefront property to put their home or cottage on to get further from the cities and closer to nature. What they don’t realize is that developing this lakefront property like your home in the cities is ruining the natural vegetation and destroying shoreline habitat. The runoff of chemicals gets in the water affecting water quality and the removal of shoreline vegetation for recreational purposes reduces wildlife habitat. Basically they are pushing out the wildlife that they are trying to get closer to by being in the north woods.
This is due to their over abundance and annoyance to farmers. An average of 300,000 deer are hunted each year. Another 3000 are hit by cars every year. Many human efforts have been made to prevent these accidents, such as fencing and deer repellents near freeways, but many seem to think that hunting and controlling the population is the best way. When Europeans first settled in North America, the white tailed deer were found only in southern parts of Canada.

Every person who has gets behind the wheel of a motor vehicle will be involved in some sort of automobile collision at some point in his or her lifetime. Traffic accidents account for over twenty thousand deaths each year and more than ten times as many injuries. There are a number of factors that contribute to these types of collisions, however, new and evolving laws can account for a large portion of successful preventable measures. In order for laws to be changed or added for the purpose of safer roads and highways, lawmakers have to first look at what factors contribute to such unsafe conditions. The top five causes of automobile accidents that cause injury are distracted drivers, driver fatigue, drunk driving, speeding, and aggressive driving. Laws can be proposed to reduce and even eliminate each of these risks.
A study showed that it was estimated that 1.23 million deer-vehicle collisions occurred between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 (Insurance Journal). In that small time frame, those accidents cost more than 4 million dollars. During mating and migration season, those numbers rise. One could tell from experience that deer collisions are very dangerous not only for the driver, but for the deer as well.

An officer began a routine stop for someone exceeding the speed limit but the driver of the sports car they were trying to pull over speed up instead of slowing down. During the course of this chase the speeds of both the police car and the sports car rose to above 100 miles per hour. At the end of the high speed chase the officer lost control of their cruiser and ran up on a sidewalk hitting a pedestrian, ultimately killing the pedestrian. In the same moment hearing the commotion caused by this accident the sports car driver looked back and proceeded to crash the sports car. Following the impact the sports car driver was killed and now people are looking for a place to distribute the blame for these two deaths. It must be decided if the officer is at fault for these deaths and the best way for the police department to act following these deaths. The legal, ethical and moral aspects of each situation must be evaluated. After this evaluation is made decisions must be made that incorporate and satisfy all of these variables in a manner most favorable to the police department.
