Standing silently, I watch as the deer approaches me with great caution. Taking its time, it gently wades through the foliage; until it abruptly dashes away, getting lost in the miles of dark green terrain. Finally, I release my breath and stare at the large camera in my hands. I wonder to myself if my presence had startled the calm deer, or if the click of camera had scared it off. Hesitantly, I head back into the car and my dad starts the engine slowly. As we begin to drive toward Old Faithful, I stare out the window and notice just how beautiful the rolling mountains are. It stands out as a striking splash of mahogany enveloped in green, and splattered on it are contrasting spots of ivory. With slow strides, it approaches me. It peers up at me with its big brown eyes, almost as if it's inviting me to come near. As I take my first picture of the fawn, its big ears point upward as soon as the ‘click’ goes off. Yet, it's not startled. It comes closer to me and now I stand just one foot away from the small deer. Using my camera, I zoom in to its face; the deer’s calm features are framed by the many pine trees and fir trees surrounding it. The contrast between the green and brown struck me again, yet it fit so beautifully into the environment. The deer begins to quietly graze the green, succulent grass. Seeing the opportunity to photograph this behavior from so close, I bend down unhurriedly. I snap a few pictures, afraid I will lose this little fawn like I lost the last, but it's in no hurry to scurry away. The fawn continues to wander around, and stays near me as it does—almost as if it’s okay with the little photoshoot its having. My parents call back at me, telling me that if we don’t get to the geyser before three o’clock, we won’t be able to spend time anywhere else. Promptly, paying little attention to the camera, I snap a few final pictures of my new friend before jumping back into the car to head
