Faith is the essence of things hoped for. It is a persistent embrace of our highest aspirations and yearnings. Faith is a humble trust that can be or can become reality. Faith makes us persistent. It gives us the strength to carry forward with the expectation that our efforts will productive and worthwhile. It is the distant light that shines when all around us seems dark and full of sorrow. Through faith, we keep our eye on our destination rather than on the hardships along the road. Faith is a direct parallel to the film “Deep in the Heart”. In the film “Deep of the Heart”, faith is expressed through the man named Dick Wallarth. Mr. Wallarth overcomes many personal hardships and inner turmoil to become a faith driven man.

Wallrath’s faith is inspiring. His main focus of faith is within his business. A scene that showcases this act of faith is when Mr Wallace displays a can of mustard seeds on his desk. When questioned for the meaning of the spices he replies with, “A leap of faith is like a mustard seed, man can move mountains. That’s how I run my business. That is how I run my life.”. He is referring to the scripture: Luke 17:5-6 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. The reference to this scripture expresses the foundation of his faith. That taking chances while believing in God will make him successful. He leads this faith with his professional and personal life. He constantly strives to improve his business. He puts in the effort and takes the chance on opportunities that will benefit his family and his life. However, after the passing of his daughter he begins to question God’s plan. He prays to God and has discussions regarding his battle of continuing in his efforts. During these conversations he realizes that life is in the hands of God. It then shows a Texas FFA State Convention taking place with Mr. Wallrath being a proud sponsor of the FFA. Jesus knows that through the hardships of life, faith is hard to come by. In my opinion, this is why Jesus states that if we have faith as little as a mustard seed, he will come to our side. He's telling us just give a little and plenty will be multiplied unto you. Faith can be a life or death situation. It takes faith just to get up and go through the day. If a person doesn't have faith that they will make it through whatever situation their facing, it could be the death of them. Almost every aspect of life relies on faith. Faith is the base of life in general. When a person is faced with a deadly situation, they have no other choice but to have faith. This sense of faith is what I strive to live my life every day. It is the determination to put my life in God’s hands because I know at the end of the day that everything happens for a reason. The relatability of Mr. Wallarah’s character struck me throughout the film. He has had more extreme hardships than I have had personally, but the same concept of questioning God of the purpose of his own life was shockingly similar to my own. Watching the film, I was overcame with the sense of understanding as the film progressed. Mr Wallarahs did many disrespectful things in his life, but he overcame them with his faith in God.
