Debbi Fields, born in Oakland, California on September 18, 1956, had always loved baking cookies since she was a child. Not only did she love baking cookies, but she also loved the satisfaction she gained from those who ate her cookies. Even when she was young, she began her first job and used that money to buy ingredients for her cookies. By the time she was 18, Fields was already known locally for her delicious cookies. She was only a housewife who loved making cookies when she married her first husband. After being tired of feeling down and judged when telling people she was a housewife, she came up with a business plan to utilize her amazing skill of making cookies. Fields Cookies so that she was not limited to just chocolate chip cookies. It was not always easy, however. Since she did not franchise her stores and locations, Fields found some trouble financially. She is still the company’s largest shareholder, but she had to give away 80 percent of the company to lenders so that she could keep her business alive. Fields continues to hold high standards for her cookies and her employees. Customer satisfaction is her number one priority. If the cookies are not perfect, she might close the shop for the day until the cookies are better. Debbi Fields is the youngest of five daughters. Her father was welder and her mother was a housewife. Her first job at the age of 13 was a ball girl for major league baseball. As a teenager she went to high school at Alameda High School in Alameda,
California. When she graduated, Fields went to Foothill College. She was only 19 when she married her first husband. Randy Fields, her first husband, was a Stanford graduate.
Together, they have five children named Jessica, Jenessa, Jennifer, Ashley, and
