Many people are split on the idea of capital punishment because it involves death. I feel that capital punishment is morally and ethically acceptable because it rids society of our worst criminals. Many people argue that killing criminals who kill is just as bad as being the criminals. For one the criminals killed innocent people who had no idea what was coming, and had no way to prevent it. The criminal who commited the crime in almost all cases had to commit first degree murder, which includes some planning of the act.
If your sister was killed by such a man as Ted Bundy would you like him released , living in prison being interviewed, writing books, a celebrity, or DEAD? We should all vote for politicians that believe in the death penalty, be part of polls that affirm the death penalty and speak out when you are asked. I personally believe the death penalty is the only way to curb the senseless killing that has become so much a part of our culture but it should be quick and certain. The only cruel and unusual punishment is letting these murderers set in prison while the victims family suffer. "Indeed, the decision that capital punishment may be the appropriate sanction in extreme cases is an expression of the community's belief that certain crimes are themselves so grievous an affront to humanity that the only adequate response may be the penalty of death."
The debates over capital punishment did not really begin until the Enlightenment of the 1700’s (Winters 17.) During this period, people starting pushing for the restriction of the death penalty for many crimes. Through controversy and debate the death penalty has remained a tool of the criminal justice system and is still argued today. The case of Paula C... ... middle of paper ... ...aken executions in over twenty years, the death penalty is a safe tool of the criminal justice department. Death penalty opponents would have United States citizens believe that capital punishment is not a deterrent, is not morally or legally just, and that people are executed wrongly all the time.
Since the 1900’s at least 416 people have been wrongfully executed causing great concern for the accuracy of the death penalty (“Death” 4). According to an examination of the “Death Penalty and Legislature,” Henry Schwarzchild calculated that if the courts were to “carry out the death penalty for every murder, then we would be executing 400 persons per week (Bedau 366). At the same time this small number of mistakes is nothing compared to the problems society would face without the death penalty. The concern of the death penalty not only pertains to social problems, but also to biblical aspects as well. Walter Berns states many passages from the Bible that support the death penalty, but after careful research he determines that the passages can be interpreted in many different ways.
What I mean by that statement is the convicted inmate murder, kills, and or torture multiple victims, then he/she is caught by the hands of justice and we want to give them the death penalty based upon their records. Now is that justice or us just wanting to crucially punish someone. The death penalty is sometimes a hard subject to talk about, because it is such a touchy subject. So I do support the death penalty, but when it all comes down to it how many people are we really saving if we take one man off of earth versus 50,000 more killers, rapist, and child molesters. No one excepts to be those things when they grow up in life some people do want to live different paths in life but some just do not chose the right
Death Penalty I. Introduction Attention Graber: Everyone knows that in the United States killing is wrong and if you do kill you get punish for it. Holly Near an activist tells us “Why do we kill people who are killing people to show that killing people is wrong?” Audience relevance: The United States is one Nation and that we believe that if you commit any crime you must be punished. If you commit a crime than you should be punish not murder. The death penalty is not a punishment.
The Death Penalty "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." This is another way for someone to say they are supportive of the death penalty. The death penalty, to me, is revenge. It kills innocent people every year. Many of the families of victims do not want the criminals to be put to death.
Michael Ryan the killer of Jim, were sentenced to the death penalty but little did Miriam know he was also sentenced. For some 20 years Michael Ryan's execution was carried out through every appeal on and on. The pain that Kelle’s family inflicted was insufferable. As unfortunate as the occurrence was it is safe to say this continues to be the pain of many murder victims families. The death penalty provides nothing but pain for the victims family, the economy and the society.
Argument for Capital Punishment If it were up to me, every murderer in this country would be put behind bars on death row and have their life taken from them just as they took the life of another. The guidelines of " an eye for an eye" go back thousands of years. Many countries still hold true to these guidelines. Although America doesn't follow the same as these countries, I believe when it comes to murder, they should. Putting people to death for committing murder makes other potential murderers think twice about killing someone.
Body Paragraph 1 (opponent viewpoint) Topic Sentence: The death penalty is a way to make justice for all the victims who can’t do it anymore. Introduce quote 1: K. Jost presents in his article Death Penalty Debates a crime where I father murdered his daughters and wife, in which the father was sentenced to death. The people against him selected the death as the best punishment to his crime.
