Thesis:
The English play “ Everyman ” uses its main characters to represent what Everyman holds onto and values during his life. When man is called by Death, Everyman realizes that he is not ready to face death, and does not want to die alone. However, Everyman seeks to find someone to go with him on his journey to give account of his life to God. Everyman realizes that all of those who joined him on earth will soon abandon him once he faces God.
In the Play “Everyman” , the author’s understanding of death and the treatment of death is the messenger from God. The thought is that no human can avoid the appointment of Death, and that Death is sent from God to spread His message. Everyman try to persuade Death to get his time extend but, Death

“The characters in the morality play were personifications of good and evil usually involved in a struggle for a man’s soul” (Morality Play, 2014). Death is a messenger sent by God to call Everyman. God is mans Maker, Holy and Just. To set the scene of the play God speaks about his death on the cross to give people life, He mentions the seven deadly sins, He states that people live in their own pleasures, and how many people have forgotten and neglected God. God gives Death a charge to show Everyman who is outside of the law of God that they must come to him without escape or delay; this will be the day of reckoning for all. Death makes his journey to Everyman, and questioned him about why has he neglected God, “Everyman, stand still! Whither art thou going thus gaily? Hast thou thy Maker forgotten?”(Anonymous). Death distributes the bad news that his day of disaster for his sins has come and he must give account to God.

Confession offers Everyman a penance if he repents his sins. Everyman seeks forgiveness from God in the presence of Confession. This way, he punishes himself with a scourge. After this, Confession proclaims that Everyman is forgiven of his sins, and consequently, Good Deeds becomes comfortable and strong enough to accompany Everyman on his journey. Finally, Everyman gets into his grave and Good Deeds is the only one who accompanies him to eternity. This shows that all other qualities of the person fade out, except for his good deeds. Everyman also fears Death so much that he repents his sins so that when he goes to give an account of his life, God will have forgiven

It perceives man being to concern about worldly matters that forget to acknowledge God. Everyman used "blind," as a metaphor to acknowledge how people react when they think about death (Goldhamer 3). As the book of Isaiah when it describes the true advocates when they recognize that they are sinners, who confess their sin and lament deeply by its situation but seems hopeless. "We touch the wall like the blind, and fondled to walk like no eyes..." (Isaiah 59:11). Of all the creatures that God made human beings are by far the supreme and more complex. However, because of pride humans often forget that God is its creator, that are created beings, and which are therefore dependent on God. God sends Death to Everyman because of their ignorance toward him (Goldhamer 2). On some point of our lives we well have to give an account for our actions. Death warns the hero that "before God thou shalt answer" (107). In other words, Death tries to frighten the reader and the character (Goldhamer 3). Death can appear when least expected. Just like the coming of God. The play tries to teach the reader that this is why we should live a life of righteousness before the lord (Goldhamer 3)

Everyman is a morality play that teaches Christians on how they should live their lives and what they must do to save their souls. The author portrays that no human being can escape the final judgment that every man will one day have to face. God commands Death to go to every person and send them on a final journey and give an accounting of his life before the Lord. No man can escape death’s door; every man will face a day of reckoning.
Redemption is the act of being saved by from sin, error, or evil. Redemption is a major theme in all writings, short-stories, novels, poems, plays, etc. Many people in their lives look to achieve redemption by the time they kick the bucket, however sometimes redemption is achieved with death. In Christianity I am reminded of the significance of the death of Christ on the cross to relate to the theme of redemption in death. The theme death has always played a crucial role in literature. Death surrounds us and our everyday life, something that we must adapt and accept. Whether it's on television or newspaper, you'll probably hear about the death of an individual or even a group. Most people have their own ideas and attitude towards it, but many consider this to be a tragic event due to many reasons. For those who suffered greatly from despair, living their life miserably and hopelessly, it could actually be a relief to them. Death affects not only you, but also those around you, while some people may stay unaffected depending on how they perceive it.
In Antigone, death is a central theme that is consistently present throughout the entire play. In this particular passage, the chorus proclaims that man’s access to resources will allow him to continue to exist; however, as long as man exists, so will death – a fate that no amount of resources can help anyone escape. In this essay, I will explore the correlation and significance of this passage, and more specifically, the correlation and relation to death, with particular characters of the play. These particular characters each have a different relation and perspective of death, however, as the story progresses, I will discuss why their relation, perspective and the way that which they acknowledge death itself evolves and changes so drastically.

Shakespeare cleverly and sometimes subtly brings the reader/viewer through a physical and spiritual journey of death via the several controversial characters of Hamlet. The chief element of this expedition is undoubtedly the funerals. Every funeral depicts, and marks, the conclusion of different perceptions of death. Shakespeare uses the funerals of the several controversial characters to gradually transform the simple, spiritual, naïve, and somewhat light view of death into a much more factual, physical, serious, and down to earth outlook.

“Death, the end of life: the time when someone or something dies” (Merriam-Webster, 2014). The definition of death is quite simple, the end of life is inescapable. I chose to write about death and impermanence because it is something we all must inevitably face. People often deal with death in a number of different ways. Although it is something that we must eventually face, it can be hard to come to terms with because the idea can be hard to grasp. Some of us fear it, others are able to accept it, either way we all must eventually face it. In this essay I will look at two different literary works about death and impermanence and compare and contrast the different elements of the point of view, theme, setting, and symbolism. The comparison of these particular works will offer a deeper look into words written by the authors and the feelings that they experiencing at that particular time.
Everyman does not resist death and even prepares for it by performing the religious rituals of the seven blessed sacraments and scourging himself. Through the performance of rituals Everyman is trying to attain the ultimate goal of reaching Heaven. He finds that the only character that will accompany him on his journey is Good Deeds, but she is weak. This represents the idea that he has not done enough good during his life and must now do something to change.
The theme of death is portrayed in both Geoffrey Chaucer’s ‘The Pardoner’s Tale’ and Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus. Whether it be death itself, or a personified representation of it. Allegory characters such as the Seven Deadly Sins have been used, as well as the notion good and evil, as a way to corrupt characters which lead to their deaths. Chaucer and Marlowe have achieved this by using elements such as language and structure, imagery and macabre. These elements and themes have been used in my own creative writing work.
Life and death, everyone thinks about it at some point in their lives. Questions like, what could’ve been different, or what was done wrong and how could it be fixed. These questions are usually what come to mind when a person is at their final moments of his/her lives. Most of the time, he/she believes there was so much more than what he/she has been through whether for better or worse. Every human goes through this in some form, which leads to the creation of clinical teachings like the 5 stages of dying. These 5 stages consist of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The medieval play, Everyman displays this kind of questioning of life and death. The main character, Everyman, struggles with accepting the fact there is nothing he can do to keep everything he’s built up, which is mostly worldly possessions. Everyman is English morality play written by an anonymous author in late fifteenth century. The play’s represent the values that Everyman holds on to by its characterization. The spiritual life of Everyman was neglected by him, but he is quickly repents of his sins as the play develops. After realizing Everyman is summoned by Death, he doesn’t want to die and die alone for that matter. Everyman soon realizes that when he is seeking for a companion to go on a journey that he wants to go but there is no one available. He soon comes to terms that everyone will soon abandon him who accompanied him on earth. The play is in allegorical characters that represents variety of concepts such as (Knowledge, Good Deeds etc.)
