Until Friday Night By Abbi Glines is a novel about a girl named Maggie Carleton, who fell silent two years ago after the horrific death of her mother. She helps a boy named West Ashby, the big guy on campus but on the inside, he's battling the grief of his father's inevitable death from cancer. When West opens up about his struggles to the only person he knows won’t tell anyone else, he isn't expecting the reply he got. Glines’ novel talks about coping with loss; a theme that young adult readers can relate too. It helps to show the ways teens deal with loss, even at a young age. This book shows a real connection between teens and the problems they face and how they solve them. In Until Friday Night Maggie deals with her problem of witnessing her mother's death by becoming mute, keeping everything that happened inside. In this day and age, there are many different thing teens do to “solve” their problems, some end up with depression or just end up dealing by drinking, doing drugs, and self-harm. In the book Until Friday Night, Maggie deals with the loss of her mother where I have dealt with the loss of both my grandfather and my grandmother. Most people in the world deal with the loss of somewhere in there lives at one time or another, whether it be a parent, grandparent, sister or brother, friend. It hurts all the same. During this time of loss for Maggie, she helps west and helps him get through the loss of his father even though she's lost so much. She learns on him for help while he does the same to her. This relates to me because when my grandmother died and a few days later one of my friend's siblings passed away after a car accident, she leaned on me so I became the strong one and put in my effort to make her happy even though I was still
