The Manifest Destiny is a belief that expansion is a good thing, that it will give people better opportunities in life. People wanted to move west because of opportunity. If people moved west they could make a living on farming, that was not the only reason why people moved west. They also moved west for resources, land and there people felt like this opportunity would bring them fortune in the end. But the Manifest Destiny impacted many things like American indians, slavery and relationship between free and slave states.

The Manifest Destiny affected the american indians in many ways. One of the reasons was american settlers were taking away their food source. This is shown in document 2, when american settlers killed buffalo so they could sell their hide for money. The picture illustrates a buffalo hide farm, but there is a deeper meaning to the picture. Americans shoot these animals and then take their hide, and leave the meat, which rotts and is no longer edible to the indians. The americans would gather a ton of the buffalo hide and keep it in one area, for them people to come and buy. (Document 2). Because of the americans killing the buffalo the indians population dropped drastically. In document 1 it shows how in the years the american settlers moved west and started killing the buffalo the indian population decreases at a very fast rate while the settlers population increases fast. Slavery came much more popular and spread west a lot. In document 4 it shows that slavery had spread way west into Texas. This also means that people were taking advantage of the Manifest Destiny and moving west to start farming, they made the slaves do the labor. So the more land people in the west owned the more slaves they wanted to own, making slavery more popular. (Document 4).
