The movie The Day After Tomorrow is about a paleoclimatologist’s, a person who studies past climates, concerns of how a shift in the world’s climate could cause catastrophic disasters to happen throughout the world. The way that The Day After Tomorrow perceives scientists is that they are determined and they often times have to make difficult decisions. In the movie the character Jack Hall, the paleoclimatologist, displays these two characteristics. Scientists work very hard and are determined at their jobs. In the beginning of the movie, when the ground started falling into the Earth Jack was determined to save his projects so he jumped over a trench to the other side, risking his life, in order to get them. Jack’s data is very important because in some way the sake of the world is in his hands. Despite the fact that his son is in the North, Jack wants the president to only help the people in the South. Jack had to decide whether or not military troops should risk their lives going to the North in the deadly storm to try to save people or play it safe by just saving the people in the South. This is an important decision because the lives of people throughout the country and the world are at risk.
The Day After Tomorrow shows scientists as determinant and the movie also shows how scientists have to sometimes make tough decisions through the character Jack Hall. Throughout the movie, Jack has to make several decisions pertaining to the livelihood of his family and the entire world.
