For my musical analysis paper, I chose to do the song “Betting Everything” by Royal Pirates. Royal Pirates is a Korean-American rock band who debuted in 2013. The band consists of Kim Moon-chul who is the vocals and guitar, EXSY who plays the drums, and James Lee who is the bass guitarist. “Betting Everything” is a song about putting everything a man has on the line to make his one and only come back to him. The song was released on July 21st, 2014. The song, which is filled with a melancholy sadness, explains all the regret and pain he feels about his significant other leaving him. Royal Pirates were the ones who originally created and and sung the song in two different versions, however, a few artist, had taken upon themselves to make covers …show more content…
Royal Pirates had made the song “Betting Everything” to dedicate the car crash death of Kim Moon-chul’s older brother in California. It is for this reason that a man putting everything they have on the line for their loved one is put into this song. The original song, which was sung in Korean, has a somewhat uplifting beat/tone to interact with the sad lyrics. It involves a soldier drum beat with a woody cafe feel since that is where the two brothers used to go to quite often. However, in the acoustic version, Royal Pirates slowed down the beat and took out all of the uplifting tone of the song and only used the guitar to display a sadder setting. Notes that were sung were held longer and full of so much more tear-jerking emotion. Not to mention that it was also sung in English for a much more foreign feel since Moon’s brother was killed in California. Lastly, in Josh’s cover of “Betting Everything,” he sings it in the acoustic version as well and amazingly executes it. His tone is just as sad, but he plays the guitar notes in a different way matching more of the original version. Josh also sings the song in a much softer …show more content…
To start, even though it is the same song, the beat and how the lyrics are executed is the changing point. Moon is a musician known for his beautiful vocals of contradicting yet enticing low toned voice ("Royal Pirates' Profile | The Royal Voyage of Royal Pirates."). James is more of an analytical singer, so he sings with absolute precision on the timing of the beat (same source as previous). The two original singers voices wonderfully suit the presentation of sadness and determination. However, Josh’s vocals are more of a pure young boy. Josh’s voice is one that would found in an ancient church that requires only the purest of vocals. Josh’s voice would be the least desireable between the three versions because it requires a voice that can display a sad emotion, but it is still a very good cover
I agree with Negativland that Island Records is only concerned about the profits they would receive from controlling the market place. Music is created to induce emotion, not only to make money. Seeing as there are only so many ways an instrument can be played, it will not be long before songs will sound similar. The similarities between the two songs should flatter the original composer because their work has inspired a fellow artist to produce a similar sound. Composing and making music is a craft that should be shared and used to help influence or inspire other people, not for anyone person to control. As a result, the decision that Negativland violated copyright law should be overturned.
Teenagers in the 1950's are so iconic that, for some, they represent the last generation of innocence before it is "lost" in the sixties. When asked to imagine this lost group, images of bobbysoxers, letterman jackets, malt shops and sock hops come instantly to mind. Images like these are so classic, they, for a number of people, are "as American as apple pie." They are produced and perpetuated by the media, through films like Grease and Pleasantville and television shows like Happy Days, The Donna Reed Show, and Leave It to Beaver. Because of these entertainment forums, these images will continue to be a pop cultural symbol of the 1950's. After the second World War, teenagers became much more noticeable in America (Bailey 47). Their presence and existence became readily more apparent because they were granted more freedom than previous generations ever were.
The lyrics are significantly more drawn out with longer notes in the classic version of the song. Nat King Cole also has a much different style of singing. Instead of using low and smooth notes throughout like Diana did, Nat King Cole focused on a variety of pitches from very low to very high, as well changing his volume quite a bit more. The original song, while it is slower, does not feel as soothing and pretty as the newer version created by Diana Krall.

Throughout the performance Band of Horses’ has a very traditional folk vibe and especially during the song Marry Song. Which seems to keep the majority of its integrity from the original release. Band of Horses does a wonderful job at being more than just a studio band they find a way to make it fell as if you are still wearing ear buds or directly at the show through the Acoustic at the Ryman album. This is definitely a band that sounds the same if not better in acoustic form.
“Rock Awhile” by Goree Carter is a lot more upbeat than “Devil Got my Woman”, with more swing to it. This song is much faster paced and can be danced to. Also about a woman, this song has more happy lyrics about a woman he loved and how his baby was coming home. There are a lot more instruments to this song like an electric guitar, a piano, a saxophone, percussion, etc. and the song was primarily instrumental, which emphasized these different musical instruments. Goree Carter’s voice was a lot smoother than James’ which made it easy to understand and follow along with, and the strength that came from his vocal style easily pulls you in.
Heavy keyboard notes, light wind instruments, raspy vocals — factors in the creation of a certain song's atmosphere. My ears were a fresh three or four years old at first listen to what would become my senior year anthem. The song begins, "The winner takes all..." This tune in particular refers to success on the horizon, conjuring up motivational sentiments. Music, in whatever form it takes, seems to affect the listener's emotions.
Many say that music has evolved over the years. This essay shall explore the elements of two versions of one song. It shall discuss the correlations and disparities of these songs and confer how it has been revolutionised to entertain the audiences of today.
The first piece of work i chose for this assignment was a song called Sleeping lessons by The Shins. The Shins are a popular band that is known for their rock sound. Each song has deeps lyrics and leaves the listener with their own interpretation of the song. Many of The Shins songs touch on existential themes.
Modern society is a society of high technology. The Internet is gripping the world and all spheres of human activity. Online stores provide an opportunity to make purchases without leaving home; online translation allows you to view TV shows, news programs, and so on. Harmon is one of the top three finalists of the once famous entertainment show, American Idol. Harmon decides to interpret this song because it relates to the difficult situation he finds himself in as he is in the top three (“Trent Harmon”). Just like James, Harmon reinterpreted the song with the same ideas. Harmon put soul into the song because he knew he had to sacrifice everything he had on stage in order to become the last one standing. However, unlike James version of “Waiting Game”, Harmon emphasizes more of the endings of the lines in the song and combines it with a higher pitched voice. Harmon’s voice gives a different feeling than to James’ gospel ways. Harmon adds a twist of cheerfulness like if he knew for sure something wonderful was about to happen (“Trent Harmon”). This version captures listeners who have endured moments of hope as they reach something better. These two versions of “Waiting Game” have differences and similarities that continue to share the idea of
Hello, this paper is boring. If you don’t like reading about music stuff, go read The Three Little Pigs. But if you do happen to be one of those people who love to read about boring music people then please, be my guest and read these outrageously long pages filled with outrageously, hard to comprehend words. So either goodnight or good luck.
Rhythm and blues, also known as R&B, is something that I really enjoy. I am a singer and along with country music, R&B is my favorite thing to sing. With rhythm and blues, there is a song for every emotion, so most of the time the songs can be very relatable. The songs have a variety of subjects like sex, work, and even drinking. In this paper I will briefly discuss how rhythm and blues started, how it evolved into today’s music and why I like it so much.
Dating in our culture is a mysterious thing. The actual definition of a ‘date’ is different for certain people, in certain places and at a certain point in time. Even so, trying to define what dating really is very difficult. But in a general understanding of the term, dating is two people spending time together and going out and doing things, without any real sense of commitment towards each other. That is, they are both generally free to go on dates with other people as well. Focusing on heterosexual dating, there are many patterns or rituals that go into the whole concept of dating. These are hard to tag, because dating rituals are often distinct to particular settings. However, dating rituals have visibly changed throughout the twentieth century, and it is largely due to an advancing society. The advancement of women’s rights, the sexual revolution, and a more liberal and accepting society all help contribute to this change.
