Did u know that Dale Earnhardt, Sr. had a son that went on to be one of the best NASCAR drivers ever? Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is a NASCAR driver who is famous, but is really quite a shy guy. He ha won many cups, one of the most well known, the Daytona 500. There many acheivments that Dale has accomplished in his life, these are some of them.
Dale was born in Concord, North Carolina, on October 10,1974. His father, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., was a successful NASCAR driver and built cars(“Dale Earnhardt, Jr.” 1). Dale’s mother and father divorced when Dale was three years old. After they split up, Dale and his sister, Kelly, lived with their mother, then Brenda Jackson. He then moved up to NASCAR’s Late Model Stock Division, and after a couple of years, he was driving in the Winston Racing Series. After a series title in the Busch Grand National Series, he won a $42-50 dollar endorsement with Budweiser(“Dale Earnhardt, Jr.” 2). In 2000, Dale moved up to the highest level of NASCAR, the Winston Cup Circuit. This gave way to bigger and better sponsers, as well as more pressure(“Dale Earnhardt, Jr.”). Dale had an impressive rookie campaign, but was only a runner-up for Rookie of the Year(”Dale Earnhardt, Jr.”2). He drove in a fire-engine red #8 Chevrolet(Fleischman 27). With all of his success, tragedy struck in 2001. His father died on the final lap of the Daytona 500, Dale finished second in the race. He is the only other person to do this since Muhammad Ali.(Fleischman 7). Also, Dale’s father and brother are the only father and two son in history to start in a Cup race since Lee, Richard, and Maurice Petty in 1960(Fleischman 8). He also helped many kids by teaching them how to drive a NASCAR car, saying this quote, “I learn as much from them as they do from me,”(Fleischman 14).
