Dale Earnhardt was born on April 29, 1951. His parents were Martha Coleman and Ralph Earnhardt. Ralph was also a racer. He was two sisters and two brothers. He married three times. His first marriage was with Latane Brown and they had a son, Kerry Earnhardt. He married Brenda Lorraine Gee, making it his second marriage. But, it all had to start somewhere. Dale started driving when his dad died. He wanted to keep the family racing legacy going and started to drive on small race tracks. He soon got the attention of Rod Osterlund and gave Dale a full ride in the NASCAR Winston Cup series in 1979. That year, he got Rookie of the Year for 17 top ten finishes and 11 of them being top 5 finishes. The next year, He won his first NASCAR Winston Cup championship and was the first to win Rookie of the year two years in a row. In 1981, Rod Osterlund had decided to sell his team and Dale joined Richard Childress' Chevrolet team. In 1984, he won five races with a second Winston Cup win. The next year, he won 11 races and won another Winston Cup. He continued to win with him ending up with a total of 7 Winston cup wins. Dale Earnhardt did. On February 18th, 2001, it was the beginning of a new racing year and it was the Daytona 500. It was the last lap on the last corner when things went bad. Dale was tapped at the bumper of his car, turned right, and slammed into the wall with the hood of the car first. Seconds later, Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt win first and second in the race. Both who were teammates of Dale Earnhardt. Dale had to be cut from his car and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with his son, Dale Jr., at his side.
