Cancer has caused a total of 7.6 million deaths annually, or about 13% of deaths worldwide. Lung cancer being the most common type, accounts for 1.37 million of those deaths. But what are the leading factors that cause this type of cancer and what can be done to prevent the increasing number of deaths? Lung Cancer can be defined as an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in either one or both lungs of an organism. These abnormal cells divide and multiply to create unhealthy tissue or tumors inside of the lungs.
“Once colon cancer becomes symptomatic, nine times out of ten it is too late” (“Colon Quotes”). Colon cancer has always been an issue in the world. It is a deadly cancer that has killed many over the years. Colon cancer affects both men and women as they get older. There have been many deaths and diagnosis over the years because of colon cancer.

The double helix DNA splits into two strands, and each separated strand acts as a new strand of DNA with its own complete genome. Second, DNA is transcribed to mRNA during a process called Transcription. The mRNA carries the information needed for protein synthesis. Lastly, Translation occurs where mRNA directs protein synthesis with the assistance of the tRNA. (ATDBio, n.d.) Figure 1: Replication, Transcription and Translation (Childs, 2001) The study of replication, transcription and translation of genetic material is known as molecular biology.
