1. The Community College of the Air Force was stood up in 1972 and has become the largest community college in the world and is the only community college in the Department of Defense. The resistance to this change is centered on accreditation, changes to lesson plans, man-power, and budgets. The enlisted education DoD and DHS wide would increase with standardization, educational opportunities, transcripts, and improved contingency operations capabilities. Opening up the Community College of the Air Force must be open to all five branches of the military.
2. One of the major benefits to opening up the Community College of the Air Force to all branches of services would bring standardization across all five services. Currently, all 5 five services have a different program on how to write their curriculum. This would cut down on having multiple schools teaching the same thing. In conversation with CPO Eason, this was being accomplished at Fort Sam Huston for medical personnel. The Army and Navy had adjusted their curriculum to meet the Community Collage of the Air Force standard for accreditation. However, the interviewee said that it was a good thing. They had to up their standards and toe the line when it came to accountability. Standardization is the building block to opening up educational opportunities to all enlisted personnel.
3. Another advantage of an Enlisted Community College would put all enlisted members on an equal footing with educational opportunities. According to the Professional Development Guide (PDG), the Community College of the Air Force gives out associates in applied science (AAS) degree to enlisted members, who complete 64 semester hours related to their current or previous jobs.
