The Dark Ages was a period of time where there was no Roman emperor, therefore causing for there to be a decentralized government. During the ninth and tenth centuries of Europe, there was a lot of chaotic terror, no trade, invaders had come in which then caused for the people to leave to live in the mountains. The society did not have a government anymore causing for them to evacuate (Document 1). Also in the ninth century, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle writes about there being chaos in England and that invasions and terror occurred. There were many acts of terror including a massive slaughtering and burning of the town of Dordrecht (Document 3).
