Great Strides
Cystic Fibrosis is among one of the most deadly diseases in the United States. It is a genetic disease in which each parent passes on a defective gene to the child which is the way a child inherits the disease. The disease primarily affects the respiratory system and the digestive tract. 30,000 citizens in the United States alone and 70,000 worldwide are affected by this fatal disease (Trivedi 3). Massive amounts of mucous build up in the lungs causes fatal lung infections of patients. Also, the disease causes the pancreas to break down and it prevents the bodies enzymes to break down food. Although there is no cure for the disease, scientists have made unbelievable discoveries and have created medicines over the years that have helped expand the lifespan of patients with the disease. Some of the primary questions brought up about the disease are things like; where are we now, compared to 20 years ago? Are we going to find a cure? What more can be done to help people and is the money for the disease being incorporated properly? Questions like these are being answered every day by those helping to find a cure. Americans need to know that the money they are donating are is truly being incorporated properly. The Cystic Fibrosis foundation has shown that they have made giant strides towards finding a cure. They have proved this by expanding the life of patients monumentally. With the factual evidence given about the foundations achievements over the past few years, there should be enough information to show that they potentially may find a cure sometime in the near future. Why should people donate their money to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation over other foundations? The answer to this question can be broken down fairly easily. The main reason people should donate to this foundation is because of the incredible strides the foundation has made in such a short amount of time. The money being used is being put towards finding a cure for the disease. Until a cure is found, scientists and doctors are continuing to find ways to expand the life span of these patients with new medicines. There aren't many things worse than a parent finding out that their child is terminal. But the American people and those around the world have the opportunity to give those CF patients a fighting chance by donating their time and money.
