Freya Cristea, Concept Map Report Assessment Two The idea behind the concept map was to exemplify that all the domains of social work are interdependent of each other, through this; we attempted to demonstrate that values are embedded within these domains. We developed the idea of ‘the cycle of social work’, utilizing the concept of rain water precipitation, condensation and evaporation to demonstrate the relationship and the everlasting cycle of what social workers do, denoting that we as social workers have a wealth of values that must constantly ‘recycle’ as well as that each field can come from the same ‘sea’ of work. Our map included the following domains and references: • Education and training (Copper & Briggs 2000) • Social policy practice (Chenoweth & McAuliffe 2008) • Research (Cotter, Martical, Smokowski & Robertson 2013) • Self-regulation • Community development (Hall 2014) (Estes 1998) • Working with families and partnerships (Chenoweth &McAuliffe 2008) • Management and leadership (Scottish Executive 2004) • Organizational practice (Chenoweth &McAuliffe 2008) • Healthcare sector (Cleak & Turczynski 2014) (Wong, Ki, Maharaj, Brown, Davis & Apolinsky 2014) • Working with individuals and groups • Collaborations with other disciplines (Chenoweth &McAuliffe 2008) These fields, as drawn from The Road to Social Work and Human Service Practice (Chenoweth & McAuliffe 2008), were deemed as the most important; each member was assigned two areas, elaborating on the practices. When I initially worked in the DES group home, I experienced disconnect as I did not have experience with the institution of poverty and the complexities of trauma on youth. The experienced staff at the group home were able to aide me in my development of compassion and empathy for the clients which allowed me to be “positive and respect who they [residents] were” (LeCroy, pg. 60). Routine, Expectations along with compassion and empathy were the foundations of creating a safe and stable environment for the residents as they slept through the night.
