In the study, “Cyberbullying and its impact on young people’s emotional health and well-being” by Helen Cowie it states People who are victimized by cyberbullying experiences some effects, for example they experience social ideation and low self-esteem. They also may experience some loneness, depression feelings and fear of not being excepted by their peers. Helen, C (2013, May 1). The statement said by the author clearly explains the mental and social effects. The victim feeling lonely is a cognitive effect due to the fact that the victim is making his self-think that he is lonely. Also, the low self-esteem and depression is an example of a cognitive issue. To get depressed a person or in this case the victim has to constantly think about the situation they are in. To have low self-esteem a person or the victim has to believe what the bully is saying about them. The social effects are a part of the cognitive as well. To with draw from being socially involved due to bullying has to do with a person mental state. What the author means by that is both state that the effects of cyber bullying is loneliness and depression. There are some things different in each one as well. The one by Helen states some of the social effects. The article by Nixon states more mental cognitive effects such as anxiety, suicidal ideation, and somatic symptoms. Cyber bullies see these reactions and keep going due to the victims they chose. The bullies know exactly what they are doing and who they are choosing. In the book called Cyberbullying and Cyberthreats written by Nancy E. Willard she explains what type of person the bullies go for. In the book, she states that the victim characteristics are someone who is shy and may not talk much. Someone who may also have some insecurities and wont defend their selves. (Willard, 2007). This statement shows the bully obviously goes for someone not able to defend themselves. The bully goes for the more weak and unstable victim and not the one who looks like he or she can do something about it. The weak victims may be quite but not always because they can’t stand up for themselves. The victim could be quit because they are thinking about suicide or even just depressed. Cyberbullying causes a very bad effect on mental health and it needs to be

As society changed so did other material, such as technology becoming more advanced. New accomplishments were achieved, however, the way people communicated among others through this new technology became just as bad as being bullied face-to-face. According to a book called Cyber Bullying, the word never existed before the year 2000, "before that time, there was no need for such a word to describe this type of bullying" (Hunter 8). Cyber bullying has become extremely prevalent in this new technological age that it is affecting countless lives without people realizing the outcome. There are many different ways bullies can make their victim feel rejected by others: cell phones, e-mail, instant messaging (IM), chat rooms, and even the very famous social networking. The Internet has made it harder to escape from bullying, and easier for bullies to escape from confronting their victims. Furthermore, the author stresses that cyberbullying not only targets high schoolers, but it’s affecting the lives of college students as well (Konnikova 1). Cyberbullying takes place in the Internet world where is easier for a bully to gossip and humiliate multiple of victims in a faster pace. The studies have shown that cyberbullying is making a greater impact in the victims’ and the bullies’ lives more than the traditional bullying and many people are not aware of it; therefore the schools, witnesses, and employers should work together to fight against cyberbullying and provide help to the victims and bullies.
...ly others to feel power or even harm others. These effect include drug abuse, skipping school because they are afraid of humiliation or have likely experienced in person bullying. Bad grades, low self esteem and health problems are also effects of cyber bullying. It impacts overall well being, and changes you as a person. Since the bully is anonymous, the chances of the victim having low self esteem and thoughts of suicide are higher than in person bullying. “Cyber bullying victims were 1.9 times likely and cyber bullying offenders were 1.5 times more likely to have attempted suicide than those who were not cyber bullied victims or offenders”(Patchin, pg. 2). According to Fight Crime: Invest in kids(2006). 16% of teen and pre-teens that had been techno-bullied told no one. These children are more likely to commit suicide because they did not seek help from anybody.

“Bullying is a specific subset of hostile aggression in which (1) there is an imbalance of power with a more powerful person or group attacking a less powerful one, (2) the behavior is intended to disturb or harm, and (3) the behavior occurs repeatedly over time. The aggressive behavior may be verbal (e.g., threats, name-calling), psychological (e.g., exclusion, rumors), or physical (e.g., hitting, kicking). Bullying can be done directly in the classroom, hallway, or playground or indirectly and anonymously through e-mail messages and other Internet social networks. The power differential may be psychological or physical” (McWhirter, 2013, p. 299). Anyone can be a bully or victim. However, bullying is considered more common for adolescents. Due to the advancement in technology cyber bullying has also become common. However, cyber bullying can occur between people with little to no interaction with each other.

More focus needs to be placed on who the perpetrators of this form of violence are and how this form of violence is linked to traditional bullying. This will allow researchers and practitioners to move forward with research and implementation preventative methods and intervention once the problem has already occurred.
In today’s society, cyberbullying is the most common form of victimisation, as it allows for a person electronically communicate and hide behind a screen. Bullying can have serious short and long term effects such as depression, drug abuse, suicide and many other life threatening disorders.
Nowadays bullying has gone much farther than just physical violence. Most teens today have either been cyber bullied or have been witnesses to it. Cyber bullying is a form of bullying that is done over electronic messaging or over social media. This is very new to many people of the older generation, but is very relevant to the new generation. Cyber bullying is becoming an increasingly big problem in the U.S. every year. Being a kid who has grown up with technology and social media I have witnessed cyber bullying many times in my life. Bullies appear scary but truthfully they are the unhappy ones. Majority of bullies have been bullied by parents, siblings, or other young people. This may trigger them to bully and pick on other kids.
A great number of children and young adults are the main target of bullying via the internet.
