Curse of Oak Island is a History channel series documenting the journey of Rick and Marty Lagina’s search for a supposed treasure tucked away on Oak Island in Nova Scotia. Many treasure seekers either died or had gone broke due to their attempts to crack the puzzle of the treasure. It is also rumored that Oak Island is cursed causing the failure of those who seek the treasure or “money pit.” This review shall summarize the efforts of Rick and Marty as well as offering a critique of the overall series concerning its reliability and accuracy.

They gave up after some time in which many others came flocking to the area to continue digging. Supposedly, this was towards the end of the pirate era and many believe that Captain Kidd must have left his treasure on that island. There were a few “mysterious” objects that were unearthed; wooden planks, discovered the hole was a shaft, chains, and a stone of inscriptions which was supposedly translated to, “Forty feet below two million pounds are buried.” This is a red flag for several reasons: 1. The stone was translated in the late 1800’s which has been discovered in class to be a very problematic year for gaining any valid information on anything. 2. The stone was anonymously translated so no mention of who the expert was other than that it was a Halifax professor. 3. After it had been translated, the stone “mysteriously” disappears and no one sees or hears of it again. So far, the series are turning out to be quite the …show more content…

There was one part where they were in what they called the “war room,” which was simply a basement office in one of their fellow treasure hunter’s house on the island where they gathered to discuss their plans. If that is not bad enough, they were showing some footage of ambiguous objects that were supposedly filmed in the pit next the money pit or “10x” as they called it, and after the first minute or so they lost their footage as it malfunctioned and the file became corrupted. They acted very alarmed and spooked claiming it must have been the curse working against them. In reality, technology malfunctions quite frequently and it would have been very easy for them to simply set up the footage to do that during the show. Even worse, Rick was expecting the shoreline nearby the wells and came across a wooden tusk-shaped object sticking out in low-tide and immediately called upon everyone to inspect it. He likens it to an elephant tusk and deems it important, they even go as far to suspect that it was planted there to destroy the hulls of ships back when the pirates were sailing about and various nations were exploring. It seems that they are willing to draw any conclusion that they can about whatever they find, another case of confirmation
