Cummings shares information about his research on metacognition. Cummings stated that there are teachers who feel students should provide critical thinking in their early years of college. There are different programs that can teach new college students skills that can enhance their ability of critical thinking and also have success academically. Stephen Chew defines metacognition as "a student's awareness of his or her level of understanding of a topic. (Chew,2010;pp.51-52) Some also feel that metacognition plays a major role in learning and academic achievement for college students. In my opinion those different programs can help students and employees by helping them with critical thinking. Some people have a hard time adjusting to new roles at work/school, I feel by using those different programs it will help them adjust to it.

She feels that metacognitive practices help students become aware of their strengths and weaknesses as learners, writers, readers, test-takers, group members, etc. (Chick,2016;para4) The student should understand the limit of their knowledge and finds ways to enhance their knowledge. When the student understands their knowledge or ability then they will be able to monitor learning strategies. Students should not only know these strategies but also practice them. This can be beneficial to students and others on the workforce. When you learn to expand your knowledge about something it can help you move up to a higher level of work.
