The majors that seem intriguing to me are the ones that deal with social sciences. People’s personalities are so interesting and diverse, I constantly find myself studying them. In high school, my favorite subjects were psychology, sociology, and health.
I think anthropology, criminal justice, and psychology are all interesting. From what I have gathered, anthropology is the study of different cultures. They take the knowledge of how people behaved in the past and apply it to present times. Out of the four different types, I find cultural anthropology to be the most interesting. In this subcategory, they focus on how people interpret their surroundings and the world based on their location. There’s basically two types: law enforcement and legal. Criminology is a part of the law enforcement side and has the task of studying criminals and predicting what they will do next. I think this will be equally challenging and awarding. A Master’s in Criminology, I have read, can be achieved in 6 years.
Although psychology interests me, I don’t see myself being a typical therapist or counselor. I come from a military oriented family. Both of my grandfathers were enlisted, my father is still currently active, and now my two older brothers have joined. Therefore, I have always had a soft spot for anything military. Although I have no interest in joining the military, I am attracted to the idea of being a military psychologist. There’s many different job descriptions for it, for example, one could work in the recruiting center, or one could work on the base.
Information that I would find helpful deciding is whether jobs related to that specific major are growing and plentiful. I want a major that interests me, but also has a good median wage. I also want to study subjects that help feed my curiosity for learning
