Advantage of Cultural Diversity

Cultural diversity has its own positive and negative side depending on how the host nation sees a group of people migrating to their country. What’s more, diversity leads to exchange of innovative ideas that will drive society forward in becoming cultural pluralism. Not only exchange of ideas leads to cultural pluralism but it also leads to contributing the economic growth of the host country. According to European Commission, immigrants are more likely to start up a business than the local people and as a result, they can significantly contribute to the job creation and the growth of EU’s economy. Both side of the party came to contact of a culture that is immensely different to their comfort zone. As a result of this, it has allowed for the new comers and the native people to experience a culture shock, because of the wave of the immigrants that are arriving in Germany in a fast rate. That is to say, a culture shock leads to stereotype and discrimination towards to migrants. The more racism and discrimination that the migrants encounter, the more they prefer to segregate rather than integrate (Berry, 2006; Jasinskaja-Lahti et al., 2009). In all due fairness, immigrants will only attempt to assimilate and integrate to the German identities when encouraged to do so. For example, Kalervo Oberg (1960) theory has strongly emphasised that immigrants who are marginalised and pushed out because of their cultural differences are more likely to reject to integrate the environment in which they live in. The fruit of Integration depends on the equal opportunities for the migrants to contest for the similar economic outcomes and education for their children. To put it another way, if there are barriers that are blocking for their children to attend in schools or obstacles that they cannot compete for work on the same basis as their local people, than its agony for the migrants to adapt rapidly because of psychological effects.
