Paulo Coelho once said, “Culture makes people understand each other better. And if they understand each other better in their soul, it is easier to overcome the economic and political barriers. But first they have to understand that their neighbor is, in the end, just like them, with the same problems, the same questions.” This quotation means that culture is an understanding of peoples way of living, and growing up. It teaches them to understand not only there culture but others around them with the same situation and questions they have faced. This quotation relates to the Cultural Competence class because it teaches people working in the healthcare field that we as workers need to be diverse and open to others cultures and customs which they live with. It has been a great experience to hear and view different views on cultural and experiences when working in the healthcare field in the future and from others who are working in the healthcare field now taking this course. The most meaningful thing I have learned from this course is that one should have respect and learn from patients cultures. We as future healthcare workers need to be open to others religion, culture, and views on things that we may not agree on, but can help fix the situation which a patient needs to helped and handle with proper care. Something that I will take away from this class is that we need to be alert with patients and others in society because although people may not tell a healthcare provider, but can feel or be hurt in another way which they do not feel comfortable telling, but as workers we need to handle situations like this in a good
