Since humans have come together, there has been culture, and while we continue to live there will continue to be culture. Culture is a thing that we as humans all have in common, but our culture is also what keeps us apart. Anthropology is the study of humans, how we work, what are our rituals, the study of our past. The anthropological perspective is how one must look at culture or at another society to observe it without bias and without judgement. There are four important parts to observing through the anthropological perspective the first being the concept of culture, holistic perspective, comparative perspective, and culture relativism. Through the study of cultural anthropology one, will understand how societies as people are the same and how they are different. The same things that make societies different make them the same. It is also important to understand why and how societies work. The anthological perspective is an important part of viewing cultures. Culture anthropologist have a very distinct way of viewing other cultures and societies which is called the anthropological perspective. The anthropological perspective is a way of look at the world without bias and judgment. Anthropologist must set aside their own cultural views to see the world in a different way. This way of thinking has four sub points that help cultural anthropologist see the world and cultures in a different light. First is the concept of culture. The concept of culture is the ideas, beliefs and actions of a group that hold these groups together, these actions are taught through generations. The groups that share a certain culture are called societies (Lecture week 1). (Culture Counts 275,277) An ethnographic example of this would be from the Mentawai in Indonesia, shamans interpret chicken and pig intestines to identify illness and cure them. (Culture Counts 276) On the other hand in catholic religion a priest would help with first communion where a child receives holy bread for the first time. (Lecture week 11) All societies are similar and different in their own way but the same thing that keeps them different are also what make them the same. It is important to know these similarities and differences It is important to understand how all societies are organized because it helps one’s society to better understand itself and also it helps us with the ways that we are different to better understand each other.
