Cruda Amarilli
The madrigal is a distinctive type of secular song that originated in Italy. It was an aristocratic form of poetry and music that flourished at small Italian courts. In the piece, Cruda Amarilli, Monteverdi uses many musical devices that are typical of a madrigal. The lyrics in this song are repeated, the music accompanies the text in interesting ways, and there is a wide range of vocal notes. After listening to the piece just once you can immediately feel the unrequited love Monteverdi is displaying through his words and music. The music and instrumentation in this piece aid the voices to establish form and mood through word painting. He uses word painting and cadences to develop a theme of unrequited love.
In Cruda Amarilli, Monteverdi uses rich affective dissonance in order to create the same degree of tension as its predecessor. With this tension he creates a feeling within the listener. He does this through word painting. As an aspect of secular music, Monteverdi uses word painting to reflect the meaning of the words in Cruda Amarilli. The music and the words work together to display the meaning, by making the listener hear the words as if they are actually doing what is being said.

It is true that the essence of any story is emphasised through distinctively visual images created for the audience. The ability of any composer- an artist with paint brushes, a musician with chords or the writer with words- to entice and evoke is at the centre of a narrative. Both Peter Goldsworthy’s novel Maestro and Beneath Clouds by Iven Sen evoke emotions in the responder through distinctively visual elements and exploration of the concepts appearance versus reality and influence of environment.
Many of these artists' works contain subtle hints to the author's opinion on the subject. By analyzing their central compositional effects, the viewer can obtain a greater appreciation and understanding for the art.
The book ends in relative confusion: a phone rings repeatedly with no answer and Djamilaa wistfully dreams of a potentially shared blocked opera (208). All throughout “The Best Slow Dancer”, the key ingredient to the image within the reader’s mind is the mood set by the poem. The mood is mystical, quixotic, intimate, and continual. This state is accomplished by three techniques—poetic devices, turns of phrase, and contortion of syntax. The main pair of poetic devices that set up all these moods and humors simultaneously are enjambment and synecdoche. Enjambment is bizarre in this poetic work, especially in descriptions of physical setting or position, such as the setting of the dance, “in the school gym across the key through the glitter/ of mirrored light”, or the position of the main character with his “cheek against her temple, her ear just under/ that”.
Many if not all books and poems use imagery to paint a picture and create feelings much like how Alexandre Dumas does in The Count of Monte Cristo to show truths that have been hidden. “Monte Cristo paled at the horrible sight. He realized that he had gone beyond the limits of rightful vengeance and that he could no longer say, ‘god is for me and with me.’ He rushed over to a boy’s body with a feeling of inexpressible anguish, opened his eyes, felt his pulse, then picked him up, carried him into Valentine’s room and locked the door” (Dumas 485). Dumas, the author, used imagery is this short excerpt because of how he wanted the reader to see how the count felt after seeing the boy, Edouard, dead. The imagery used in this excerpt is to show how heart broken he is such as saying that he felt his own pulse to show that he is extremely inexpressible anguished. He realizes hidden truths because he wanted power over villefort but instead he hurt his wife and their son who was totally innocent. The count also had many facial details pointed out by the author to establish the image of remorse. Central lines (CL) are used frequently in hospitals throughout the world. They are placed by trained health care providers, many times nurses, using sterile technique but nosocomial central line catheter associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) have been a dangerous issue. This is a problem that nurses need to pay particular attention to, and is a quality assurance issue, because CLABSI’s “are associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and health care costs” (The Joint Commission, 2012). There have been numerous studies conducted, with the objective to determine steps to take to decrease CLABSI infection rate, and research continues to be ongoing today. The problem is prevalent on many nursing units, with some patients at great risk than others, but some studies have shown if health care providers follow the current literature, or evidence based guidelines, CLABSIs can be prevented (The Joint Commission, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to summarize current findings related to this topic, and establish a quality assurance (QA) change plan nurses can implement for CL placement and maintenance, leading to decreased risk of nosocomial CLABSIs.

There is a growing body of work in the philosophy of music and musical aesthetics that has considered the various ways that music can be meaningful: music as representational (that is, musical depictions of persons, places, processes, or events); musical as quasi-linguistic reference (as when a musical figure underscores the presence of a character in a film or opera), and most especially, music as emotionally expressive. Here I will focus on the last topic, for I believe it will be useful for researchers in music perception and cognition to avail themselves of the distinctions that aestheticians have worked out regarding the musical expression of emotion.
The style that Monteverdi intended to write in was called seconda prattica, this was a description that he used to separate himself for what was known as the more conservative tradition of Palestrina and his “Contemporaries.” The main starting point for Monteverdi was the always the words. Whatever his mood was at the time and what the words might suggest, and or whatever a one word needed to express, was mainly reflected on his music. Throughout the century, this was the basic idea of word content; this painting was used in madrigals through out the century. Due to the fact that his music expressed different moods of styles, for Monteverdi it was however isolated effect, and a guiding force. “This ideal permeated his madrigals and found new expression in the dramatic language or opera.” All Monteverdi’s techniques of work altogether made Monteverdi one of the expertise in the field of Western music.
“When love is not madness, it is not love” –said Pedro Calderon de la Barca, a dramatist. These words by Pedro Barca contribute to the theme of the short novella “Rappaccini’s daughter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne. These words represent Hawthorne’s implied message because through out the story the feelings exchanged between the two main characters; Giovanni, and Beatrice has been nothing but madness. The reason this story has been madness is because the many turn of events that lead up to one of the most ultimate pains, losing the one people care about the most. Also this story persuades the idea that love is love even if it does not follow the qualities of a socially realistic ideal meaning of love. This book supports a different kind of affection because throughout the story it was love between a two individuals. Beatrice, the main character of this story is half flower because her father is devoted to science and research so she is the result of his scientific research. All throughout their relationship with their different circumstances according to society, and their love was genuine even though their image is different. The exchanges between Giovanni and Beatrice begin as simple lust and no deep emotional understanding and attachment, yet drastically changes to true love and an emotional attachment they have for each other due to the recent communications they have developed. The author’s message about love is that it does not always end in a happy ending and that love comes in many different forms.
To begin, the sound of this poem can be proven to strongly contribute an effect to the message of this piece. This poem contains a traditional meter. All of the lines in the poem except for lines nine and 15 are in iambic tetrameter. In this metric pattern, a line has four pairs of unstressed and stressed syllables, for a total of eight syllables. This is relevant in order for the force of the poem to operate dynamically. The poem is speaking in a tenor of veiled confessions. For so long, the narrator is finally speaking up, in honesty, and not holding back. Yet, though what has been hidden is ultimately coming out, there is still this mask, a façade that is being worn. From the creation of art to its modern understanding, artists have strived to perform and perfect a photo realistic painting with the use of complex lines, blend of colors, and captivating subjects. This is not the case anymore due to the invention of the camera in 1827, since it will always be the ultimate form of realism. Due to this, artists had the opportunities to branch away from the classical formation of realism, and venture into new forms such as what is known today as modern art. In the examination of two well known artists, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock, we can see that the artist doesn’t only intend for the painting to be just a painting, but more of a form of telling a scene through challenging thoughts, and expressing of the artists emotion in their creation.
A couple of times throughout my life I heard that art will speak to you even though it doesn’t talk. Not having a real knowledgeable understanding of art or being a big appreciator of it, Berthold Woltze’s ‘The Irritating Gentleman’ (1874) is an oil painting that depicts realism that really draws me into everything in the painting because of the attention to detail he put into it. This particular work is the first time that anything in the art category has made me feel a special way about it and it truly does speak to me.
