The importance of cultural diversity is that it teaches the people to understand each other’s views, interests, and ideas and helps people view the world in different ways. This would finally lead the society to work towards each other’s interest, mutual goals, and objectives. Tamar Jacoby in his article “Are Today’s Immigrants Assimilating in U.S Society, Yes,” he said that, “Those who are coming now are people who understand cultural fluidity, understand intermarriage and find that a natural, easy thing. This maintains unity and balances in the society” (411). Once this stage is reached, all the problems would be solved.
Social Diversity plays an important role in our community. It has helped us grow and individuals and open each other’s mind. When you become exposed to different ways to live, and see how other cultures carry on then you are no longer closed to the idea that we are all different in some way, and those differences can be meaningful in our lives. When it comes to diversity it also promotes more tolerance. In terms of being tolerant that means diversity can help us accept other cultures, and even adapt some of their ways into our society.
The Benefits of Immigration in the United States America is known famously throughout the world with the nickname 'The melting pot.' The reason behind this is that America is extremely diverse and has many different people. Immigrants give America the chance to know the culture of many countries. They bring in their culture, religion, economic benefits, and ideology to America. I believe that the United States should allow legal immigrants from all over the world because they bring many benefits to it.
The last step to becoming a mindful communicator is to “recognize different perspectives” (Rothwell 80). It’s very important to recognize other people’s perspectives when communicating with them. Overall, I strongly believe that becoming a mindful communicator will tremendously enhance intercultural communication. In conclusion, I think that everyone would benefit by being mindful of others while communicating with
It helped individuals to build great relationships when working together, especially when it comes to meeting deadlines. Additionally, good etiquette could be produced while working and this could be an advantage for every individual at work or anyone having to deal with communicating with people from different cultures. It also helped in developing a mutual understanding of the reason for being, needs and history of other cultures. Hofstede theory has aided us in learning about the national culture. By learning how other cultures overcome similar problems as the individual’s own, the quality of life of the individual could be improved and at the same time gaining greater understanding of the purpose of life.
Even though all human beings are the same in some ways, we are still culturally different. Cultural diversity lets us appreciate our differences. Different cultural groups have varying beliefs, customs, values, and a wide variety of characteristics that make them special. Cultural influences make people see the world differently and cultural diversity should be appreciated. Diversity should be respected and definitely noticed because it shows our uniqueness and self worth (McHale).
It is common for Americans to touch each other with a pat on the back or shoulder to offer reassurance or sympathy. In the United States eye contact is one of the most crucial form of nonverbal communication. Maintaining eye contact when someone is talking or explaining something demonstrates that you are paying attention and respect what they have to say. The United States of America is indeed a culturally rich nation. People from all different walks of life and backgrounds have come together to create a country that is a mosaic of diversity.
Eventually, immigration lead us to open our minds to new concepts and acceptance for people with different backgrounds, and that is called multiculturalism. Not to mention, that immigrants bring their cultures with them so they can teach others about themselves, which is great because that could help in many ways, especially, in how to contact with people from other countries. As one famous philosopher said, “Appreciation for cultural diversity is essential for our co-existence”. For example, according to (Landeskunde Special) in 2006, societies with so many different languages and cultures tend to have the possibility of learning from people having other heritages. They can exchange experiences, so everyone is able to broaden his mind leading to an intellectual improvement of the society.
Although living in a multicultural society might bring disadvantages like isolation and racial judgements, the benefits are more powerful resulting in an adapting society where individuals are free to live any culture. When an individual has a culture than the prevailing society they can be affected in either a positive way or a negative way. There have been in many instances were people change their culture due to joining the societies culture and others just use the culture for benefits like in Mukherjee's essay. In other occasions individuals have been exposed to racism due to them being from another culture that does not accommodate to their society. With all these diverse cultures in America individuals should respect every persons culture and look at the bright side not mattering culture.
• When people communicate they share ideas and perspectives, so everyone learn a new way to see the world or even a small thing or situation. • There will be an open-minded population. • Get to try new things. • People learn to cooperate with each other and promote respect between cultures. • Multicultural society makes the people being less racist and leads to a non-discrimination society, having a more peaceful environment.
