In modern world, social work is one of the professional areas that gained vast and rapid development. Due to the complications of human society today and the nature of social work, its relevance will not diminish in the closest future. With this in mind, it is important to research the implications of a career in social work in order to understand the basics of its functioning and its fundamental principles. However, there is a standard that is potentially conflicting with my personal values and beliefs, which is 1.13, Payment for Services. In the Code, it is stated that not only the fees should be fair but that they are obligatory. (National Association of Social Workers, p.13-14) However, for diversifying professional experience and knowledge, I believe that, from time to time, it is necessary to take on clients who do not have the ability to pay at all. I believe that self-awareness is not only important but also obligatory to professional helping. While professional knowledge base is more about the techniques and skills that can be learned, self-awareness comes from inner experiences and defines the professional practice of the helper as strongly as the skills and knowledge obtained. Self-awareness influences thoughts, emotions of the personal helper, and thus impacts their connection to the others and their ability to reflect.
