Before I could knock on the door, Lester opened it and let me inside. He had a stupid looking grin on his face, and I hoped that he hadn’t seen us kissing in the van. “It’s good to see you,” he said as he looked me up and down. “I just saw you yesterday,” I replied as I crossed the threshold. After he had winked his eye, he said, “I know.” Just then my mother yelled from the kitchen, “Summer, is that you?” “Yes, Mom. It’s me.” “Taste this lemonade that Imani made. It’s delicious; I told her that she needs to set up a lemonade stand.” “Where is Imani anyway?” I asked as I looked around. “She’s taking a bath in the soaker tub in my room. “That’s my ride. Summer, I’ll see you when I get back. Don’t leave,” she said as she spoke with greasy lips and a mouth full of food. “I’ll walk you outside,” Lester announced as he got up from the table. When the both of them left the table mom asked me if I wanted to go to bingo with her tonight. After turning her down all the time, I decided to take her up on her offer. Maybe I could win some money this evening; God knows I needed some extra cash after agreeing to take Imani to the mall. “Alright Mom. I’ll go.” “Really?” “Yeah. I’m feeling lucky.
