Arriving at the end of the street they head for the trail that leads into Jaded Grove. The forest provides shade and the air is still cool on their skin. Jaded Grove is thick woods but its not very deep. It takes them all of twenty minutes to hike their way through. All the while, Jenna complaining about her aching feet.
They reach the base of Mount Mercy and follow it west to the waters edge. Years ago the pennisula was easily accessible on foot. Yet, after years of wear the path is no longer passible. "It's fine, I promise." He says but Steven glares back into his eyes.
"Easy for you to say. You don;t fear anything. What's one little cave to you? After having to face the wraith of headmaster Johnson every other day. For some of us, something like this is a huge risk." Steven says an Anthony rolls his eyes.
"What's the worst that could happen?" He asks. Steven scratches his chin.
"How about bats?" Steven asks, and the girls exchange worried glances.
"Bats?" They ask together. Ignoring them, Anthony rolls his eyes.
"There might be bats, but nine out of ten times if you don't bother them, they wont bother you." He replies, and Steven raises an eyebrow.
"What about snakes?" He asks, and once more the girls exvhange worried glances.
"Snakes?" The girls ask again, but Anthony's eyes are locked on Steven.
"There might be snakes, but I broughr my knife." He answers, as his lips curl into a smirk.
"Okay, wise guy." Steven says, "How about bears?" The girls exhange worried glances a third time.
"Bears?" They repeat, but again both are ignored.
"Steven, look around you. Take a long look at the size of this pennisula. Where do you think a bear could hide, here?" He asks, and Steven crosses his arms in front of
“So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you’re just a man after all…”
"This is an island. At least I think it's and island. That's a reef out in the sea. Perhaps there are not any grownups anywhere."
“So those bites were really given to you buy carnivores?” Gilbert asked. He liked watching the Discovery Channel too much.
“Men, for many of you, today is your first day training as a Knight of Camelot,” said Prince Arthur to the group standing before him. “And be grateful you’re not stuck in a torrential downpour as I was on my first day of training here on this very field. The sun is shining and I plan to work you hard.”
“Well we can’t force feed it to them. Can we?” another man asked, unsure of himself.
"Eh? Ghosts and whatnot?" Another chuckle slipped from his maw. "They really will teach kids anything these
side path off to the side of her usual trail. This path led her through a different area of the woods. Then she noticed a small house that she paused to look at. Then a man stormed out of the house and grabbed the girl, put her
"They won't be able to find me now,"' he laughs, hanging a sharp right. Various items
“This way!” The Shaman led them deeper into the forest. “I may know of one place, but—Look out!”
"I don't know honestly, I'm not worried about any normal person coming across us but I am worried about people coming here with an oil drill and finding us, or scientists coming to examine the ocean and finding us" I replied walking over to her with a plate of fresh baked cookies. I have become quite fond of cookie since the night.
The little girl is dragged by her big sister and friend into the forest, stumbling over broken twigs and rugged tree roots concealed beneath the multicoloured leafy ground. Her older sister grasps her hand tightly, so as to prevent her from wandering astray. Rich aromas swirl around the forest; the tantalizing smells of the berries and fruit, teasing them, trying to tempt them to make wrong a turn. The little girl’s hair, tangled with the branches of the undergrowth, which she and her sister have just climbed through. Wind tugs wildly at her once white, now damp and muddy brown dress. Golden emerald light streams down, through the forest, filtered by the leafy canopy above.
“Hello there, what is a little girl like you doing in the woods all by yourself?” He asked me.
"Oh, I bet they are!" I say, throwing up my hands in the air and glaring at him. "I wouldn't be surprised if they were ‘protected’ by those weird cat beast things! " I shout.
As I began to walk this trail, I began to recollect the days of when I was a kid playing in the woods, the birds chirping and the squirrels running free. The trees interlocking each other as if I am walking through a tunnel with the smell of fresh pine and a hint of oak all around me; a hint of sunshine every now and then is gleaming down on the beat path. This path is not like your ordinary path, it has been used quite some time, as if hundreds of soldiers have marched this very path.
"Always be on guard young man, the monsters care not to wait for you to wake up and get dressed." He let out a deep throaty laugh and stepped back in his stance.
