ENSURE REALISTIC GOALS ARE SET
This strategy ensures that the goals set are in fact, achievable, and that tasks can be completed as a result. Setting unrealistic goals can lead to failure to complete tasks and as a result, a reduction in morale, productivity and time management. To ensure goals are realistic, ensure they are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Bound). SMART goals are clear and well defined goals. They are goals that are obtainable, action-orientated, and rewarding in addition to being results-orientated, trackable and time bound. In the workplace, writing a list of all tasks to be completed can allow you to visually determine which task requires most attention. Once tasks have been identified in order of importance, allocating a time frame in which to work exclusively on a task, will help in maintaining good time management and performance. Determining times of less distraction is important to consider and to allow for contingencies when it comes to prioritising. Re-prioritising may be required at times. Coming in to work a little earlier if necessary to complete tasks or projects can aid in keeping on track and within the time frame allocated. Scheduling time for rejuvination and relaxation is imperitive to good mental and physical health. Fatigue, moodiness and frequent illness can be a result of poor stress management which is why looking after your health and well being is important in the workplace in terms of time and performance. Strategies of stress management include decreasing or discontinuing caffeine, regularly exercise, do activities that enable you to relax and recharge, have quality sleep and take time out where necessary. Having realistic expectations and focusing on a positive attitude are also ways to manage stress in addition to cultivating a great support system around you.
