Effective Parental Collaboration for Safe Environments
In the state of Hawaii, most students have a close connection to family, extended families, and the community. This is a life style and true Aloha that many find upon arriving. Of course, there are families who do not have the community supports necessary to raise their families, but the school system does offer character education curriculums and try to involve families. Collaboration with families through programs during school, activities after school, and parent/student after school activities and service projects help students and families stay on track.
The state of Hawaii supports parents through parent/child intervention programs that help teach parents effective ways to handle problems that arise, with positive outcomes. The state is dedicated to early education intervention through pre-school and Kindergarten programs that feed and house children and give parents necessary tools to react positively to children, which promotes respect and responsibility to young children. Although this is good news, I quit teaching High School English because of pervasive cheating and two dangerous students who were selling drugs and handling fire arms. Students are learning character education at the elementary and Intermediate through DARE programs and curriculum, but once in High School, many forget what they have been taught. Many parents believe that they no longer need to monitor their students, thus, peer pressure and the need to be self-satisfied become more important (Lickona, 1991). At the High School level and beyond, students will benefit from organized service projects that will enlighten their responsibility to others instead of selfish intentions (Lickona,1991)....

...er curriculum from K-12, I paid close attention to what they were learning. My children enjoyed this part of their day when they had a voice and comfort knowing that the whole class knew the rules. These classes gave my children tools to handle bad tempers and deviant behavior without becoming a statistic. I always felt it was important to teach children that no matter what their GPA was or how good an athlete they were; it was their responsible and respectful character that will ultimately bring them success in life. "Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education" (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr).

architecture is meant to do more than affect, inspire, and intrigue. His philosophy is much more abstract than that. Any inspiration from a project comes first from analyzing the entire program and implementing a response to the issues at hand, thus creating a wonderfully thought out demonstration of architecture. Richard Meier was born in Newark, New Jersey in the year 1934. He was educated in architecture at Cornell University in New York and graduated in 1957. Upon graduation, Meier worked for
Just as in life, however, many fictional characters survive, adapt, and triumph; these characters may never be recognized within a larger world, but they are vitally important to other characters and are the objects of deep love and respect. Creating this woman in fiction can often be difficult, because the writer must present a whole character, not one trivialized by sentimentality or stereotyped by convention. Willa Cather in My Antonia and O.E. Rolvaag in Giants in the Earth have developed
Introduction “I’m dropping out.” The definite sentence that a student says when they have decided that they do not want to complete school. Nationwide, many students, for various reasons, decide to drop out of high school and choose not to pursue a diploma or GED. The song War by King Los is an example of the realities youth face today. Introduction There are many things that shape a city such as culture, demand, and the vision of the city from the designer, but none are more instant and long lasting then disasters. London is one city that in this it is apparent and thus it is the topic for this essay. In order to demonstrate that the impact that disasters have on a city are the greatest shaping tools, I will focus of the Great London fire of 1666 and the Great Stink of 1858 and compare them to the Industrial revolution of 1760
Hip-hop as a musical form began among the youth of South Bronx, New York in the mid- 1970’s. Individuals such Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash were some of the early pioneers of this art form.(Fernando 43) Through their performances at clubs and promotion of the music, hip-hop consistently gained in popularity throughout the rest of the 1970’s. The first commercial success for hip-hop was a song “Rapper's Delight” by the Sugar Hill Gang in 1979.(Potter 45) This helped bring hip-hop into the national
of living in a fallen world. John N. Vaughn, a consultant who offers his services to aspiring church pastors, lauds megachurches for their ability to identify spiritual warfare in urban areas, distance themselves from such strife, and worship in a safe, serene locale. As Vaughn would have it, megachurches remain inaccessible to “gang members [and other] power groups [who] usually know that it is best to keep a respectable distance from worship centers, where the power of God is obviously present”
Let's Get Dirty - Our Future Is Compost Have you ever wondered what happens to your trash after you put it in the garbage can? Most people do not, after all, sanitation workers remove the garbage and it is never seen again. Martin V. Melosi called this "out-of-site, out-of-mind mentality… as long as someone removed wastes from the immediate range of the senses, the problem was solved."1 As a result, garbage disposal is a service that many take for granted. Yet, waste does not just disappear. It
