The retina of the cougar’s eyes has more rods than cones, portraying a sign of night vision. Some morphological adaptations include, sharp canine teeth, used for tearing apart meat. Long back legs, used for jumping and running at speeds of 40 miles per hour, as well as, claws used for climbing tress. Behavioral adaptations include, being quiet will hunting and catching its prey, and burying its unfinished kill for later consumption. These characteristics show that the eastern cougar is not only a physically powerful animal, but an intelligent one as well.
Many forms of dog food are meat based, though, similar to the carnivorous diet of the gray wolf. Beyond commercial store-bought food, domesticated dogs do, however, form natural instincts that tend to have them go after smaller prey at times. Communicative patterns were also handed down from gray wolves to dogs, as behaviors dogs have inherited from wolves include "a complex communication system ranging from barks and whines to growls and howls" (Basic). Dogs commonly display barking to show a variety of emotions and barking i... ... middle of paper ... ...of wolves, and have evolved from the gray wolf species specifically. This evolution began about 10,000 years ago when the first dogs became domesticated.
Also their snout is very long. Each paw has five very strong claws, which is used for tearing, digging, and climbing. One single hit from the front paw is enough to kill an adult deer. A black Bear is a true carnivore, but if not prevented the black bear could be a huge problem to humans. A black bear loves to eat fresh leaves, berries, fruits, nuts, roots and also Insects and small mammals.
Canis means “dog” in Latin. They share a lot of similarities with other canines like wolves, fox and dogs. The Canis latrans is more commonly known as the coyote. This mammal is not domesticated and can be found throughout North America and South Mexico. This animal is adaptive to most habitats, to include desserts, grasslands, and even neighborhoods.
Conclusion I learned a lot of things that are unique about black bears. I learned that they had a wide variety of colors. They use their claws for more digging and climbing than killing other animals. They prefer plants and berries over animals. I also learned that black bears live in the Western part of Nevada.
Where found: Wolves are found all over the world, and on almost every major continent of the earth. The following wolves are types of Gray Wolves (Canis lupus). In eastern Europe the European Wolf (Canis lupus lupus) can be found even though it used to roam most of western Europe as well. In Spain, two wolves have also been identified-Canis lupus deitanus and Canis lupus signatus. While the first is similar to many of the other European wolves, the latter may be more closely related to the jackal (Canis aureus), than to a wolf.
Wolves can be an array of colors from pure white to mottled gray to pure black, and most commonly, wolves are gray. Their fur ... ... middle of paper ... ... still necessary to ensure the survival of the wolf population. Recently, the wolf has had a violent stigma surrounding it and I have always been curious to why. I have always found them fascinating, and I believe part of my fascination is because dogs, or “man’s best friend,” are all descendants of the wolf. This led me to wonder what exactly is the history and relationship between wolves and humans.
During Jack London’s life he has written many great novels, perhaps the greatest was White Fang. In 1906 he wrote the legendary novel about a stray wolf reverting to domestication. The majority of this book concerns White Fangs’ struggles with savage nature, Indians, dogs and white men. However, we also see White Fang is tamed by love and turns from a savage wolf into a loving and domesticated dog. White Fang begins with two men traveling through the artic with a dog team and sled, followed by a pack of famished wolves who pick off the dogs, one by one at night and eventually gets one of the men.
This is a misdemeanor. Wolves hunt deer, rabbits, moose, and other animals (“Wolf”). Because most of the animals they hunt are in fact larger than them, the sickly, inferior, or downright small are targeted since wolves track then kill prey up to ten times their size with their teeth(“All about Wolves”). This makes the hunted animals population stronger. While wolf hunting habits are a prime example of natural selection, human hunters are the opposite.
Hunters also like the satisfaction of knowing that their experience and skills are the reason they were successful in their pursuit of the coyote. A disadvantage of a mouth blown call is that there is a limited amount of sounds for each call. While blowing on the call, the person may need to move around. In colder weather some calls could freeze leaving you unable to make a call, and there is a minimum skill level in making the proper call and benefiting from it (Coyote Hunting). One type of mouth blown call is called a howler.
