Country Music: A Reflection of Lifestyle

Growing up in a rural part of Arkansas taught me that there is two types of people, those who like country music and those who do not. To clear things up, when I say country music I don’t mean musicians like Luke Bryan and Taylor Swift; I mean musicians like Hank Williams, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard. Where I am from these are considered to be the classics, making them some of the best examples of country music. Country music is more than just music it is a way of life, which is why there are many things that liking or not liking country music can show about a person. Instantly when I know that someone likes country music, I know that they know how to slow down and enjoy things. This is obvious to me because true country music is often slow, which intensely bothers those that can’t slow down to enjoy a song. I know this because when I ask people from my home town why the don’t like country music the first answer that almost all of them come up with is that it is too slow for them. Everyone knows how different emotions feel, so when they hear it accurately portrayed in a song they can sympathise with the singer. The way country songs convey emotions in a simple way, can tell you that those who like this music like for things to be simple. Those who like country music do what they can to lead a simple life. Songs of other genres often convey emotions in a much more complex way. The people who like these other genres often like they idea of having complex emotions and leading complex lives. How complicated a person's life is often directly correlates to the pace at which they live their lives.
