Councilor Delaney what the determination was for the removal of a tree. Mr. Driscoll stated trees have normally not been removed due to sidewalks, but instead due to other factors. Mr. Harvey Silverman, resident of Honeysuckle Drive believed slip and fall incidents would not be minimized, but instead exasperated by the material which has sharp edges. He said Mr. Driscoll stated the ADA regulation regarding grinding and beveling of root was not possible due to the material not being able to be grounded which will cause the roots to go to the water. He stated the tree in the Hamptons was removed due to a microburst which is similar to a tornado. Mr. Gary Steger, resident of Sweet Bay Circle stated the Abacoa Homeowners Association opposed the
After reading the case study Welcome to the new town manager, by Mary Jane Kuffner Hirt, I established three major problems the community of Opportunity needed to correct. These problems involved the water & sewer system, the balancing budget, & the pay-as-you-go method. The city manager, Jennifer Holbrook, must implement strategies that would correct these problems quickly.
While I personally support the development, I respect the Committee’s opposition to the development. As a resident and voter, I find it appalling that the Council disregarded the concerns of so many residents in their vote to rezone the property. The entire rezoning process has been a haphazard, schizophrenic mess. I believe the best course of action for the Township should have been to hold a nonbinding referendum before the Council voted on the rezoning. Hopefully, the Council has realized the errors of their ways and will conduct future Township business in a much better way. Lastly, regardless of how the Superior Court rules on the issue, I hope the Committee stays involved in the planning and development process. Only with proactive community involvement will the Crossroads development become a great place for all of Mahwah’s residents to enjoy.

The Greenhill Community Center was a multi-service center in Coastal City. Years ago, there was once a small town called Chaves Ravine within Los Angeles, California and this town was a poor rural community that was always full of life. Two hundred families, mostly Chicano families, were living here quite peacefully until the Housing Act of 1949 was passed. The Federal Housing Act of 1949 granted money to cities from the federal government to build public housing projects for the low income. Los Angeles was one of the first cities to receive the funds for project. Unfortunately, Chavez Ravine was one of the sites chosen for the housing project, so, to prepare for the construction work of the low-income apartments, the Housing Authority of Los Angeles had to convince the people of the ravine to leave, or forcibly oust them from their property. Since Chavez Ravine was to be used for public use, the Housing Authority of Los Angeles was able seize and buy Chavez Ravine from the property owners and evict whoever stayed behind with the help of Eminent Domain. The LA Housing Authority had told the inhabitants that low-income housing was to be built on the land, but, because of a sequence of events, the public housing project was never built there and instead Dodgers Stadium was built on Chavez Ravine. Although Chavez Ravine public housing project was the result of the goodwill and intent of the government, rather than helping the people Chavez Ravine with their promise of low-income housing, the project ended up destroying many of their lives because of those in opposition of the public housing project and government mismanagement.
When people see new construction or a recently paved road, they often do not realize the sacrifice that was made to create these luxuries. Most people pass some form of construction on the way to their jobs or school every day. This simple fact sparks questions regarding what this area looked like before it was inhabited by humans. Illinois forests have undergone drastic changes in the decades since European settlement. Only 31 % of the forest area present in 1820 exists today. (Iverson Pdf) Tearing down trees to build new structures isn’t bad if done in moderation, in some ways with time and good planning its wonderful. However, anyone that hunts or claims to be an outdoorsman will relate to the incomparable feeling experienced when alone in the woods and far from the hustle of the urbanized world.
4. The decision allowed the city council to postpone their vote for a week, and they suggested that the sites developer design a plan to save more of it’s trees.
As the two cities grew adjacent to each other, they both became very prosperous and interdependent on one another. In the City of Eaganville, many jobs were created with the introduction of manufacturing facilities in the early 1900’s. The job landscape in the area began changing after World War II. With less need for manufacturing facilities and a growing need for the service industry, large office complexes began to sprout up on Eaganville – all constructed by the Anderson family’s business – Anderson Construction Inc. Many of the people who worked in Eaganville did not live there. The majority of the housing was on the other side of the Wallace River in Compinwood. At that time, the bridge connecting the two cities over State Route
As an opponent to the new proposal, I believe that sales taxes should not be used for the construction of a new ballpark in Seattle. One of the reasons that supports my belief is that increasing the sales taxes would represent US$750.00 per five-person family over the twenty-year period of tax. Another reason is that a family building a new home in the Seattle area will be extremely affected by the increased tax because this tax will raise the building cost by $200. Finally, there will be a $250 million tax increase for the residents of the Seattle area. Therefore,
Danville was the first in Contra Costa County to have a neighborhood traffic management program (NTMP) to address neighborhood traffic issues. Due to the fact, that the main town has narrow streets, lined with boutiques, restaurants, and cafes, there is a huge influx of pedestrians, thus, the importance for education and enforcibiity about safe driving is crucial. In the downtown area, the speed limit is 25 MPH, and on the outskirts of Danville, the speed limits range from 30-45 MPH. The town council makes traffic enforcement a priority by instilling safety and appropriate behavior while driving in Danville. Again, due to the beautification project that was recently finished, there are large street signs
The way we chose to dress can express our identities and according to Frith and Gleeson (2004), “men’s clothing practices [in particular] are an important and pervasive form of appearance management that reflects the continued monitoring of their visual selves” (p. 40). She appears to
A few years ago, a severe winter storm blew through the Topeka area and knocked out several power lines, resulting in thousands of power outages. There was a big issue with restoring electricity because of the frozen tree branches grounding out power lines. Westar energy hired a professional tree trimming contractor to remove trees from power lines, so that their crews could get in and restore power to residential areas. Gina Penzig, a Westar spokeswoman said, Westar clears trees from the areas near power lines to maintain safe and reliable electrical service to its customers (Hrenchir). Of course, residents were all for electricity being restored; but according to councilman John Alcala, property owners complained about what they considered to be the irresponsible pruning of trees by Wright Tree Service – Westar’s contracted service. (Hrenchir) City council members eventually approved a resolution that directed the cit...
In 1993 I had the good fortune to be one of the Americans to attend the first European Congress on Tree Care in Lahnstein, Germany. To this day those of us that were there remember the Congress as a forum that helped us all to realize the importance of the ISA and the International Tree Climbing Championship series.
