After the 25th of January revolution in Egypt, the media started to be the backbone of the Egyptian social political lifestyle. The media forms the people’s opinions towards a certain candidate, propagate against an ideology or a movement. Before the presidential election in Egypt, each political party started to open its own TV channels publicizing their own agendas and thoughts on certain issues and problems that faces the Egyptian at the time, for example, a writer by the name Abdel Moneim says “in 1997 when the Egyptian Radio and Television Union asked me to host a program titled Behind Events. I agreed on one condition: I would operate with complete independence,” which means that to be independent, it was a very hard task and a request.
Example number one, the ex- regime party “the national democratic party” which Mubarak was the president of the party as well, the party used the national TV which is more than twenty channels to propagate the idea that Mubarak is innocent and is the best president that Egypt ever had. The ex-regime’s media started to claim that the protesters are getting paid from other countries to break down the structure of the Egyptian political life stability, the media also claimed that the Muslim Brotherhood Party is responsible of everything is taking place on the streets of Egypt, and by saying that, the media meant to give the image that “Al-Qaida” is responsible because of what is so called the Islamic agenda, which in reality the agenda has nothing to do with the religion of Islam at all. So media is really a backbone of a nation, if it is corrupted, the whole nation is corrupted. For sure this era is witnessing the highest rate of corruptness in the media, and Egypt is just a small part of the world that is living in this era and in this disorder of things, which the media is one of those things.

Over the centuries, the media has played a significant role in the shaping of societies across the globe. This is especially true of developed nations where media access is readily available to the average citizen. The media has contributed to the creation of ideologies and ideals within a society. The media has such an effect on social life, that a simple as a news story has the power to shake a nation. Because of this, governments around the world have made it their duty to be active in the regulation and control of media access in their countries. The media however, has quickly become dominated by major mega companies who own numerous television, radio and movie companies both nationally and internationally. The aim of these companies is to generate revenue and in order to do this they create and air shows that cater to popular demand. In doing so, they sometimes compromise on the quality of their content. This is where public broadcasters come into perspective.

The media made a bigger deal out of the Arab Spring than necessary, so the word spread across the countries and it brought courage into more people everywhere causing the revolts to continue to grow. Egypt and Tunisian protests were aired on Qatari-based Al-Jazeera television channel even when there were continuous requests to stop it (Delacoura).
The media vilifies the Arab states e.g. Iran, Iraq, Syria even when it was America who installed the dictatorships in the first place for fear of single Islamic entity forming, and they support Israel who are in the process of genocide against Palestinians.

One way in which government achieves this objective, is by its ability to misuse the media’s ability to set the agenda. Contrary to popular belief, media is in fact an enormous hegemony. In fact, separate independent news organizations do not exist. Rather than creating an independent structured agenda of their own, generally lesser smaller news organizations adapt to a prepared agenda, previously constructed by a higher medium. Based upon this information alone, it is quite apparent that media functions in adherence to the characteristics of a hierarchy.

There are many different theories as to what ideology is, from being about people’s beliefs and how people see themselves in the world. In this essay I shall be looking at different theorists and how each of their theories helps us to understand what ideology is, and how ideology can help us to understand media. Ideology is a set of beliefs or ideals that are followed by a group of people or an individual. These beliefs are then used as a format for political or economic systems. An example of one of these ideological systems is Republicanism, which is the belief that a Media is used by dominant powers to spread their ideological beliefs and to help maintain social control.
People are using media to show the entire world the truth. Politicians are also using the media to make themselves look better and using Black PR to humiliate their opponents. In countries with communist or monarchy regime media is not an armed method to control people.
There are numbered of news channels that have maximum coverage throughout the country. Media contribute a lot to develop public knowledge but even after years of success, media could not alter public’s attitude towards issues. Media should discourage smoothly such attitude of public. Demonstrations and protests are good to increase pressure towards the solution of any problem, but there should be a proper way to express which should result oriented.
