Since my sophomore year at Tennessee State University, becoming a Correctional Treatment Specialist has been my main focus. In order for a person to become a Correctional Treatment Specialist they would need to first obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and would also need further training. Afterwards they will have the necessary skills and experience to become a Correctional Treatment Specialist that can lead to a very rewarding career. “Correctional Treatment Specialists advise probationers and develop rehabilitation plans for them to follow when they are no longer in prison or on parole” (Correctional Treatment Specialist/BLS). “Technological advancements improved tests for drug screening and electronic devices to monitor clients” (Correctional Treatment Specialist/BLS). This helps the Correctional Treatment specialist supervise and counsel probationers. “Although many officers and Specialists work full time, the demands of the job often lead to working overtime. For example, many agencies rotate an on-call officer position. When these workers are on-call they must respond to any issues with probationers or law enforcement twenty-four hours a day. Extensive travel and paperwork can also contribute to more hours of work”(Correctional Treatment Specialist/BLS). In the Social Work field you don’t necessarily have set hours because anything can happen at any given moment. For example, if you are on call, and you get a call at 12:30 A.m. that a child is being insubordinate, it is that Correctional Treatment Specialist’s job to take the necessary steps to go and see what is going on with that child, and if need be, take further steps if the child is being
