In the social work profession, social workers help individuals, families, and groups restore their self sufficiency in society and to create societal change that support and benefit the needs of the community. In addition; social workers roles are multifaceted in helping people to overcome life’s daily challenges: poverty, discrimination, abuse, addiction, unemployment, etc. Social workers help empower individuals from all backgrounds to address their own needs though psychosocial services and advocacy. The core values of social workers are service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity and competence. Social workers provide dedicated services to clients by putting their needs first and helping them address daily challenges. Social justice allows social workers who inherently have a desire to help others who otherwise are unable to advocate for themselves. Regardless of a person's beliefs or cultural background, social workers use human dignity and worth of a person to set aside any biases that a social worker may have and help the client address those needs. Being culturally competent allows a social worker to understand the differences in diverse vulnerable populations by understanding their culture and customs. Social workers induce integrity in their profession by being responsible, honest, and ethical at all times. Confidentiality allows a client to be I have recently encountered being homeless due to my landlord not repairing water leaks in my home, which resulted in my kitchen ceiling caving in and the growth of black mold.
