Copper as a Valuable Resource
Introduction:
Copper is a valuable resource whose intricate steps from initially a raw product to ultimately the final product may be traced. The life of copper can be followed from its extraction, processing, and disposal. All of these steps, including the wastes produced, have an impact on human life and the environment. The developments of resources, such as copper, have helped change history. The environmental impacts of these changes may also be felt. Thus, it is important to understand the in’s and out’s of the process. By doing this, it is possible to see what resources and what waste products come out of this resource. Only then, can proper methods be taken to manage this resource properly.

Copper is an important mineral resource used in many different areas. Its properties of high ductility, malleability, and thermal and electrical conductivity, as well as its resistance to corrosion, make copper very useful as a major industrial metal (http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/commodity/copper). Copper can be refined from metal ores or scrap copper so it can be used as a powder in automotive, aerospace, electrical equipment, in –fouling compounds, and various chemicals and medical processes. Compounds of copper can be found in fungicides, wood preservatives, copper plating, pigments, electronic applications, and specialized chemicals. In conclusion the theme, that many people believe that money can buy you happiness and love, is clearly signified in The Great Gatsby. Not only was Nick shown the differences between those born rich and those who worked hard for their money but he was also shown the value of love. With all that money and no love (besides the love for Daisy) Gatsby lived a lonely and empty life. Not near as empty as Tom and Daisy who both fled the scene of the crime to escape from their mistakes leaving Nick to clean up the mess they had made. Also we are able to see that while Myrtle was trying to substitute the love of her husband with the money of Tom she went to far and ended up ending her life. Myrtle and Gatsby lives both had tragic endings, which show that when there is money involved you, can not buy happiness.
In The Great Gatsby Fitzgerald offers up commentary on a variety of themes justice, power, greed, and betrayal, the American dream and so on. Each one of these themes is demonstrated through the relationships, which the characters have. Fitzgerald carefully sets up his novel into distinct social groups, in which each character fits. By creating distinct social classes – old money, new money, and no money, Fitzgerald shows the differing in the way relationships turn out. This book offers a vivid peek of what life was like during the 1920’s.
A person who practices a lot and works hard at improving his game is the type that I feel is really a true golfer. As May Hezlet once said, "No golfer can ever become too good to practice." To have the motivation to prepare you for an endless amount of tough shots during a round is wonderful. For example, lets say you have a one-stroke lead in the Master's and you have a very difficult shot in which you must carry the ball 20 yards, and keep it within putting distance to keep your lead. If you hadn't practiced this shot, most likely you wouldn't carry the whole distance. But, if you did practice, it would take a lot of pressure off yourself and you would most likely succeed.
The purpose of this experiment is to analyze the efficacy and accuracy in determining mass composition of copper in a penny using two methods: atomic absorption spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy.
Copper mining has had a huge impact on Michigan throughout history. Copper mining has had such an impact that the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has a region referred to as “The Copper Country” because of its involvement in the copper-mining industry. The copper-mining industry has also led to technological developments necessary for hoisting and drilling as well as the development of towns and cities in the Keweenaw. In addition, it led to the creation of many potential jobs for residents of the towns that were developed to support these mines.
An atom, by definition, is the smallest part of any substance. The atom has three main components that make it up: protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and neutrons are within the nucleus in the center of the atom. The electrons revolve around the nucleus in many orbitals. These orbitals consist of many different shapes, including circular, spiral, and many others. Protons are positively charged and electrons are negatively charged. Protons and electrons both have charge of equal magnitude (i.e. 1.602x10-19 coulombs). Neutrons have a neutral charge, and they, along with protons, are the majority of mass in an atom. Electron mass, though, is negligible. When an atom has a neutral charge, it is stable.

Jay Gatsby spent his time at night looking at green light that glimmered across the bay on East Egg. Gatsby seemed to cherish this light, almost as if it was his enchanted object that he relished everyday. The green light had meant jealously to Gatsby, but now that Daisy was at his side he saw the green light as if it was telling him to go. Gatsby had never felt so close to Daisy, even though the distance between them wasn’t so far at all. But now the green light was just another light at the end of the bay. His count of cherished items had diminished by one.
It is commonly believed that all those who are wealthy adhere to a similar set of values, characteristics and have similar lifestyles. Fitzgerald provides the reader a clear view through the eyes of Nick Caraway of the differences and similarities that can be found between wealthy people in the roaring Twenties. Two characters that are very important to the story are Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. Fitzgerald created two purposefully different characters- one that is easily despised, the other that although not perfect, is likeable- and united them in their love for money, the power that comes with it , and their haunt for the ultimate prize – Daisy. In this essay, we will compare Tom and Gatsby in several areas, including personality, loyalty, and life style so we can come to the conclusion whether or not they are perfect foils of each other or not. Tom and Gatsby bare little similarities and their differences are evident.
By recycling metals you can save energy, money and the environment. Here’s the thing metal is not grown it doesn’t pop up in rows it’s a resource that can be used up. In order to obtain metal first it has to be mined which in this form is called ore, then it is smelted and purified. This process alone can create a lot of pollution and can be very wasteful. Wasting Metal just throwing it away is probably one of the most hazardous and costly waste that a person can create. Some metal contains lead which in the state of California is known to cause cancer secondly the process to make metal is time consuming. As listed above metal can be taken to scrap yards to be recycled not hard to do. Load it up take to a scrap yard unload and get paid and get out. By recycling metal you are doing you and everyone else a great service. You help the environment by not allowing it to absorb hazardous waste such as lead. And you don’t let a precious resource go to
Since copper is relatively unreactive lumps of pure copper can be found under the ground. 400 tones of pure copper was the most anyone has found but native copper usually isn’t mined as it is too hard to find and won’t make enough of a business. Copper is found all over the world but mostly in ores such as chalcopyrite, malachite and covellite. Chile, USA, Peru, China and Australia are all big contributors of copper.

Every American uses an average 47,000 pounds of newly mined materials each year, which is higher than all other countries with the exception of Japan, which is a staggering figure representative of our dependence and need for mined minerals. Coal makes up more than half of nation’s electricity, and will continue to be the largest electrical supplier into 2020 & accounting for some 95 percent of the nation's fossil energy reserves – nine of every ten short-tons of coal mined in the United States is used for electricity generation. As the population of the world grows more mineral resources must be exploited through mining in order to support the rising demand for such products. Metalloids can be applied in almost all aspects of life. From being used in gum and toys to technology and spacecraft, metalloids are very useful. For example, Silicon can be used in electrical insulators, fabric softeners, hair sprays, hand creams, furniture, polishes, paints, adhesives, and gum. However, mining poses environmental risks that can degrade the quality of soil and water, which can end up effecting us humans if not taken care of and many of the damages are irreversible once they have occurred.
