The amount of control depending on the situation can decide the decision of the outcome whether be good or bad as best told in the story “The Dinner Party “by Mona Gardner. Gardner’s story shows how control verifies differently from person to person. At the party a young lady claims that women have changed from the days of being viewed as easily frightened. The colonel speaking with her disagreed saying men have more mental control and women in dangerous situations loses their composure. The American when he saw the bowl of milk remembered in their country of India to placing a bowl of milk is a means to lure out a snake. He quickly scanned the room for possible spots where the snake would be ^ not seeing any he concluded the only other place it would be is under the table. He knew that if he made a disruption of the party would cause chaos and allow the snake to strike. Instead he devised a game where if anyone in the table moves before the end of counting 300 seconds they will pay a penalty of fifty rupees. This allowed him to control the other guests from moving and focus on his timing to when the snake would merge. The presence of the snake under the table shows its control in the situation that if the American were to make any mistakes it will strike and decides who lives or dies. As he counted down by twenty seconds the snake merged and made a dash for the bowl of milk. The presence of it causing a massive panic. The American took that chance to run and shut the veranda doors trapping the snake outside. His self-control and mental control of both his thinking and actions saved everyone and resolved the
