Introduction
Here we observe a flavors and food additives company, Amgis, had a sudden increase in production due to the transfer of production from other unit and it simultaneously increase in sales. Because of the strict labor laws and strong union power in the Asian country, the company was not interested to hire additional permanent employees for managing the short-term improvements in productivity. Overtime work duties assigned to its current employees was not possible due to severe penalties for overtime imposed by the government. So Amgis chose to go with an option of hiring contract labor to handle heavy production loads when needed. This contract labor was provided by one third-party service provider that has long term relationship

In ideal conditions, the production change rate is always higher than labor cost change rate. But after four months, the above index indicated there was no significant improvement in between temporary labor cost and production. So, the company was decided to use the Six Sigma approach to reducing the costs of casual labor.
Executive Summary
Define Phase
In this phase, A process map for the current set up was defined and it specifies "how much manpower is required based on the given product order receipt". If any shortfall occurs that was handled by some extra contract labor. Here any increase in contract labor should match a corresponding increase in production size. So, in the Define phase team always takes care about for achieving the positive Manufacturing Leverage Index by using the High-level process map.
Measure Phase
Here the team, the first half of 2012, contract labor cost increased while production volume remained constant or decreased compared with same period of 2011, A cause-and-effect analysis was completed in July for a better understanding of the various factors that are involved in this labor and production relationship such as
When discussing the concept of contract law, there exist two bodies of legal rules that may apply to the contract. These bodies are the common law of contracts and Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code or the UCC. The common law of contracts is court made and is constantly changing, but the UCC is required in every state within the U.S.A. It is important to know which one to use and when, as well as what the differences between them are.
As it was back then, money and greed are driving forces in the world today. Getting the most profit possible is always one of the main focuses of any company. Even today there are many ways that companies cut costs that don’t benefit their employees. For example, many American companies outsource jobs to factories in other countries where the laws aren’t as strict and the labor is less expensive so they can make a greater profit. When...
The fundamental objective of the Six Sigma methodology is the implementation of a measurement-based strategy that focuses on process improvement and variation reduction through the application of Six Sigma improvement projects. One of the ways that this is done through the DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) which is an improvement system for existing processes falling below specification and looking for improvement. Compared to the DMADV process (define, measure, analyze, design, verify), DMAIC uses the existing process as the baseline for a desired incremental improvement plan for the organization. Furthermore, to provide a better understanding of the Six Sigma DMAIC process, one must have a better understanding of each of the steps required to execute the plan and achieve the desired outcome for the organization (Fursule, Bansod, & Fursule. 2012).
Since more than 40 years, Toyota Company was thinking how to develop the traditional process costing system and the production system. Some of the companies believe that the increasing of the production is a big profit, while Toyota proved the opposite. The more you increase the products out of the need of the market, the more losses you are going to gain. This kin...
Business improvement techniques such as Six Sigma, Lean Management, Theory of Constraints (TOC) and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) are successful and accepted worldwide. Many successful firms, for instance Toyota uses production planning techniques to achieve world class quality output. AGI in this paper illustrates the before and after stages by implementing various business improvement techniques to achieve the desired output. Also, high end business such as, U.S Navy implements the integrated blend of TOC, Lean and Six Sigma approach- “AIR” to eliminate the problems arising from uncertainty and inefficiency. Furthermore adding speed and direction to their project. On the other hand, Youngman demonstrates the production planning using
Every firm has to make important decisions regarding the production process of a product. Different firms have distinctive production strategies and the main goal is to maximize efficiency as well as financial growth. One important decision that every firm needs to make is to either outsource or insource the production of a product, or parts of a product. Outsourcing and insourcing are techniques of dispersing work among alternative departments or companies for strategic reasons.
Every company has some kind of Revenue and they all have costs that are associated with running the company. It is also true that if a company wants to increase their Revenue, their costs will increase too. It is every company’s goal to maximize revenue and either through Production or Services, and minimize cost. These things are easy to figure out, but actually identifying the production and figuring out how it will increase or decrease with change is very difficult.
For example: with the increase of the number of products produced, the cost of operating a machine also increase. Second we have batch level costs which is associated with batches; producing a multiple units of the same product that are processed together is called a batch. The third type is product level costs which arise from any activity in order to support the production of products. The fourth and the last type is facility level costs, this costs cannot be determined with a particular unit, product or batch; this costs are fixed with respect to batches, products and number of units produced. A single measure of volume is used for allocating costs to each service or product in traditional method for example: direct material cost, machine hours, direct labor cost and direct labor hours. A cost driver is an activity that generate costs, it can be generated by two types of costs the first is a particular machine 's running costs where the costs is driven by production volume as machine hours; the second is quality inspection costs where the cost is driven by the number of times the relevant activity occurs as the number of
Primary production of homogenous goods and several processes are undertaken for the finished product to be realized is what is called process costing. All stages of processing and costs accrued during manufacturing of a product will be added to the final batch of products. Keenness is
The basic law of a contract is an agreement between two parties or more, to deliver a service or a product. And reach a consensus about the terms and conditions that is enforced by law and a contract can be only valid if it is lawful other than that there can’t be a contract. For a contract to exist the parties must have serious intentions, agreement, contractual capacity meaning a party must be able to carry a responsibility, lawful, possibility of performance and formalities. Any duress, false statements, undue influence or unconscionable dealings could make a contract unlawful and voidable.
A contract is an agreement between two parties in which one party agrees to perform some actions in return of some consideration. These promises are legally binding. The contract can be for exchange of goods, services, property and so on. A contract can be oral as well as written and also it can be part oral and part written but it is useful to have written contract otherwise issues can be created in future. But both the written as well as oral contract is legally enforceable. Also if there is a breach of contract, there are certain remedies for that which are discussed later in the assignment. There are certain elements which need to be present in a contract. These elements are discussed in the detail in the assignment. (Clarke,
Finally, I have suggested some recommendations for the issues that I have mentioned above. In reference to the first issue, it will be profitable for the company to change to level monthly production.
The lean manufacturing techniques have also been named as the post Fordism system of job that is democratic, humane and more efficient. A central tenet of lean manufacturer is the concept of “Kaizen” that is continuous improvement in the manufacturing process. The lean manufacturing philosophy seeks to integrate efficiency with quality of work life. The concept of “Kaizen” looks for eliminates all activities that do not add value, referred to as waste or “muda” in Japanese. This looked at excessive size inventory, excessive setup time, and work in process. The “Kaizen” process also removes defects or flaws in the production process and finds the cause of the problem. This involves employee participation that can monitor and sense any difference in products and processes. The employees also contribute to the improvement of production and organization. The productivity improvement is accomplished through incremental innovation.
Joseph Quetsch (2007) authors an article comparing Six Sigma, Lean Thinking, and the Theory of Constraints starting with common methods of improvement that are utilized by
In order to facilitate the growth of assets a firm must control its assets by matching production and sales. To manage sales and productions, organizations “employ level production methods to smooth production schedules and use manpower and equipment efficiently at a lower cost” (Block & Hirt, ...
