LOUISVILLE, KY (Friday, March 21, 2014) – As part of The Road to the Kentucky Derby Championship Series, Churchill Downs today launched a new video series chronicling stories about the horses, people and places leading up to the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands on Saturday, May 3. The video series is new feature of the Kentucky Derby Channel on YouTube and can be viewed at www.youtube.com/user/kentuckyderby along with videos of past Longines Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby presented by Yum Brands races and other related content. In conjunction launching the video series, the company announced a Road to the Kentucky Derby Giveaway that will award one lucky winner with a trip for two to the 2015 “Run for the Roses.”

The Road to the Kentucky Derby 140 is a series of 34 races that began last September and enables horses earn points towards qualifying for one of the prized 20 starting positions in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands. The Road the Kentucky Derby began last September with a series of 18 initial prep races that lead up to the start of the Championship Series on February 23. The final 16 races in the Championship Series conclude at Keeneland Racetrack one week before the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 3. The 20 horses with most Road to the Kentucky Derby points qualify for the Derby.

... track. Churchill Downs will conduct the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 3, 2012, and its Spring Meet is scheduled for April 26-June 29. About the Road to the Kentucky Derby
First establish in 2013, The Road to the Kentucky Derby is a qualifying point system for the 2013 Kentucky Derby featuring 34 stakes races overall, with the most important being the 16 marquee events for 3-year-old Thoroughbreds in the final 10 weeks leading up to the first Saturday in May known as the Kentucky Derby Championship Series. The top 20 horses with the most points will be eligible for a maximum field of 20 horses that will complete in the 140th running the of America’s greatest race on Saturday, May 3.
