According Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2015), the consequentialists make an analysis based in the cost-benefit of an action’s consequences. It means that consequentialists would ask the question related to the ethical dilemma: what is the benefit of abortion? A consequentialist may find different reasons to affirm abortion as the best choice arguing the benefit of it in the case of a single Mother who may continue her studies at college if decides abortion for example, or would affirm abortion as the best choice arguing the benefit of having one less person to increase the population. But also, the consequentialist may consider on the other hand the high psychological, physical, and emotional cost that aborting brings to the Mother who opts for it. For example, this philosopher would ask him/herself if the abortion shows benevolence, generosity, self-respect, among others. This virtue ethicist would choice to avoid the abortion as he/she would se abortion itself as something egoist and far away from these traits of the character. In the particular case of the moral dilemma of abortion, the most appropriate to handle this dilemma is a combination between deontologist and virtue theory ethical approaches. The reason to affirm this combination as the right one to handle the dilemma of abortion is because this combined approach protects the life of the child, and the mother, also protects the mother in her psychological, emotional, and physical health, and preserve the society by protecting the life of an individual who may contribute to others in the near future.
