Los Angeles Times, November 6, 2001, “Congress Testing Bush’s Resolve”
How do we know if our president is doing his best to serve the people instead of acting on his own will? We entrust the president to make the right decisions and to do what is best for us. This is why we vote for who we think is the better president and hope he will serve us when we need him. After the recent attacks on September 11, 2001, a lot of stress has been put on the president because our nation is keeping a close watch on his actions. At times of war, he is our backbone and the support we need. Congress has been putting the president on the spot about spending money for drop-in supplies to Afghanistan, which will affect the entire United States by causing us to spend more money and at the same time, hurting our economy.
Recently, President Bush has been working since September 11 to find a solution to cut the spending of Congress, but at the same time, provide military assistance to Afghanistan. Bush believes that he may have opened up doors to profligate government spending and thinks he is too late to close them. On Wednesday morning, several presidential advisers met and decided that it was necessary to pursue and improve the stimulus package, the supplies being parachuted for the citizens of Afghanistan. Bush was against this idea and publicly asked for support from congressional leaders to limit the spending of the package. He was asked if he would veto the excessive spending, but Bush would not say. His credibility is on the line and the public will be watching him to see if he will stand by his words. While Bush has been gaining support from the people of America, Congress has been spending more money. Funds from the Social Security surplus have even been used for the war. Tax cuts to redistribute incomes have been added to the $40 billion already spent. Some people though, believe that the stimulus package should be scrapped. Lawrence Lindsey comments, “To kill them now, threatened a stock market collapse and a deeper recession.” All these events have been directed toward us because our nation will soon be in debt and we will have to cut down on spending to keep our economy up.
Congress has been testing the president’s limits on how much he plans to spend for the packages being dropped in Afghanistan.
“President Obama’s FY2014 base budget request of $552.0 billion in discretionary budget Authority for the Department of Defense (DOD) and defense-related programs of other agencies (excluding war costs), exceeded by $53.9 billion the legally binding cap on defense funding for FY2014 that was enacted in 2011 as part of the BCA.” Similarly, in their initial actions on the annual defense funding bills for FY2014, the House and the Armed Servi...
In order to run more efficiently, there are certain responsibilities that Congress has given to the President over time. But that doesn’t mean Congress is losing any power or authority. It just means that they are giving up a responsibility that they don’t need. One of these responsibilities that were given to the President is the raising and lowering of tariffs. When it came to this issue, Congress can’t act decisively on its own. So even though Congress appropriates funds, they gave the President this fiscal responsibility. Again I want to stress that they didn’t lose any authority or power because of this. All they lost was a responsibility that they no longer have to worry about as it’s the President’s responsibility now. Still, the president has no authority or power regarding this issue. However, when he was given this fiscal responsibility, Congress also gave him staff assistance in the form of the Bureau of the Budget. This department helps the President make up the budget he wants to propose.

The fact that presidents do not keep their campaign promises is a recurring trend and theme occurring in our American nation. Rather than achieving their goals and promises for this country, they leave the public waiting for the campaign promises to be established. The public opinion is significant when it comes to these ideas. Due to the Congress and courts countless promises can not be concluded. This is an exceptional and valuable point, being that it restricts the president from having excessive powers. There is a system in place known as checks and balances, where each branch has a job to review and examine the additional branches. This strategy is both essential and important in keeping all the branches in the government in check. Everyone

Vattenfall is a Swedish state owned energy company with 35,000 employees, with over 17,000 working in Germany. Together it produces heat and electricity from six energy sources: wind, hydro, biomass, nuclear, coal and gas. Throughout much of Europe, Vattenfall, has become a familiar name amongst many of the continents consumers. Vattenfall, which is Swedish for ‘waterfall’, has expanded into many countries including Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Holland and Britain, since 1992. Because of this ambitious expansion program, it has become one of the largest wind power operators in Britain and the third largest electricity producer in Germany. Industry insiders were expecting the company to join in Germany’s EON and France’s EDF as one of Europe’s top three electricity producers.
Even facing a lot of criticism from non-budget deficit supporters, Obama still ended up expending large amounts of money. The only reason for that is stated in the Keynesian economics. It argues that gov’t should spend money in such cases like depression or recession, even if it incurs large budget deficits. Before Obama’s arrival as a president, the economy was slightly into a recession caused by a crash in the housing market that led to a complete financial crisis in 2008(“Deficit Spending”). Eventually, Obama, as soon as he took office, needed to do something to resolve this economic problem. Consequently, he followed Keynes’ economic theory. As explained before, he also satisfied the opponents of this program by decreasing wasteful spending. Later, it turned out that the stimulus “raised the nation’s economic output by 2-3% from 2009 to 2011”(Umhoefer). This means that the total value of all goods and services produced in U.S increased. Usually, this happens when companies/businesses offer jobs to tons of people and the production values automatically rise as a
There are 6 largest budgets items in the U.S government, they are Medicare/Medicaid ($96 billions), Social Security ($88 billions), Defense/War ($58 billions), Income Security ($31 billions), Net Interest on debt ($24 billions), Federal Pensions ($25 billions). Each one has its own importance though the U.S government should cut back spending on few of the budget items. They conducted survey and got federal pension and defense/war should be cut back. In my point of view they should cut back in federal pension because the defense is mandatory for U.S citizens the government should protect citizens that is there responsibility, without defense we can’t protect from enemies foreign and domestic.
According to most policy makers, they believe cutting these spending is very harmful because they might go into some projects that Americans depend on. They put it that these cuts might create massive unemployment, compromise military readiness to sudden aggression and do away with projects that have put America to be where it is in the current global politics. However, according to my view, I do not think the cuts I have done would really jeopardize the lives of many Americans. I believe that my approach has looked it from a more balanced approach because it only reduces it by $ 320 Billion, which is not an amount that can put America into danger. Consider that during Obama administration, the target cuts were projected to be 2.5 Trillion. Thus, my cut is not that much significant.

After taking office in 2009, the new president presented priorities that would require reduced defense spending. This process of establishing new priorities likely began immediately after his inauguration and the 2010 National Security Strategy documents this shift. In the opening remarks, the President declares his focus on building strength at home through economic growth and national debt reduction. He also places priority on health care, education improvement and the pursuit of green energy with only cursory remarks on defense capability. Although it may not have been the President’s intent, messages like these prompted DoD leaders to closely examine budgets and identify areas of substantial savings. Under this scrutiny, the F-22 production and modernization program, at more than double its original projections of costs and time, stood
In the Valley of the Sun, where cloudy days are few and far between, one would think rooftop solar is a great way to reduce or eliminate your utility bill. This paper will focus on three aspects of deploying rooftop solar: cost, efficiency, and permitting. For those thinking of pulling the trigger on this popular energy saving option please read on.
As the increase in the consumption of energy gradually increases per year, the government needs to take measures in opting to renewable energy sources, preferably solar energy because of its decreasing price, versatility, and its abundant main source of energy.
The United States currently has a national debt of over $19 trillion dollars, with that figure steadily increasing at a rate of about $1 trillion every year since 2012. As a result, the defense spending budget for America has been a widely discussed topic as we seem to have lost control of our spending. For instance, before the attacks of September 11, 2001, the United States had spent an average of $280 billion each year on its Defense Budget. Following the attacks, however, that number has soared and the expected budget for the fiscal year 2017 was estimated to be upwards of $850 billion (Otto 2015). That increased spending was justified by many due to America’s level of involvement in conflicts both in Iraq and Afghanistan that have spanned the last decade. However, as wars have slowly come to a halt for the United States, the need to regain control of our spending has become apparent.
Solar energy can be brought to any home or business in this region. There several residences utilizing this power already, but we can implement this technique across the entire region. “Today, nearly 4,000 people in Haiti power their lights and electronic devices from 15 solar power stations in trailers” (Mechanical Engineering 1). Solar energy is already being implemented successfully throughout the world and this region can take part as well in this progressive way of thinking. Environmental conservation is quickly becoming one of the most pressing social issues facing our world today, and solar energy is the cornersto...
