Conflict of Learning

I have come to believe that the greatest achievement in learning is not how much information I have acquired, but learning and understanding the process used to acquire it. It is better to understand how I handle relationships than know how many I have. My personality and learning style directly impacts how I learn and how I interact with people. It goes far beyond and deeper than just a quick reflection of who we are. Our personality and learning style determines how we feel, interact, react, process information, how we think about ourselves and the list goes on. By understanding how we learn, we can begin making changes to both how the information is presented, how to process this information, and how to use it when needed.

I have taken several assessments and tests to determine my learning style. Most of them are similar in purpose and focus on specific characteristics. The Keirsey Temperament Sorter provided a comprehensive overview of my personality. The ATLAS Instrument provided specific information pertaining to performance in a learning environment. Although these tests are supported by many years of research and development, they do not provide 100% accuracy. In Introduction to Type it states "Type does not explain everything. Human personality is much more complex." (Meyers 42) After reviewing the results of the many publications and explanations provided, I discovered that this is certainly true. One example of this complexity is the presence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) in me. I realized that my AD/HD has a direct influence on my learning style and personality type. Having a baseline of my learning style provided by the assessments has allowed me to adjust my learning environment ...
