The Arab-Israeli conflict has lasted for many years and has affected many lives. In such a pivotal and emotionally charged political event, most powerful and influential politicians will take sides. The conflict’s factions do not represent good and bad but rather portray the biased views of two groups locked in everlasting disputes over land. American politicians such as Condoleezza Rice and Bill Clinton are interested in the events occurring over-seas and support the conflict and the factions in a variety of ways.

Before joining the national government she was a professor of political science at Stanford University from 1993 to 1999. Rice also served on the National Security Council as the Soviet and Eastern Europe Affairs Adviser to George H.W. Bush during the fall of the Soviet Union and the German reunification.

Rice moved to persuade Israel’s withdrawal from Palestinian territories and open commerce and travel between the areas. During the summer of 2005, Condoleezza Rice encouraged Israeli leadership to withdraw from settlements in Gaza and the West Bank. She visited the region in July to show American involvement and support in the conflict. She marked the successful withdrawal as a victory for both Israel and Palestine by stating that "[The withdrawal] is a historic moment for both sides, and the commitment of both sides to a successful disengagement process has been impressive." Despite Gaza’s new Palestinian leadership, complaints of stifled commerce and travel difficulties are still heard. American plans for the conflict has shifted dramatically since the Bush administration and Rice’s diplomatic effects. American focus has shifted from support for Israel to a more mediated or even pro-Palestinian essence. Some more recent acts of the new American administration is the denouncement of Israeli housing projects on the West Bank. The settlements were an overall failed attempt but brought attention from the United States and the United Kingdom with claims from the nations include terms such as “Illegal” and “Illegitimate”. Any peaceful intentions or ideas are buried under the constant threat of missile strikes on Israel, with many missiles crossing their skies daily. Relations will remain strained and the region’s populace will live in perpetual fear and distrust until the actions of radical groups stop.
