Do we want this problem to affect the future of the National Football League (NFL)? The concussions problem can change how football is played. The concussions in the NFL was first diagnosed in 2002 by Dr. Bennet Omalu. The NFL has done a lot to protect players from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and improve technologies to better diagnose CTE. The NFL has done enough to prevent concussions. The NFL has improved their helmets with better tests. The helmets go through test using the HIT system which simulates a real impact administered by the National Operating Committee for Standards in Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) to be approved to be able to use. The NFL keeps funding to help improve the ability to diagnose concussions. They announced it has given funding to three concussion preventing technologies. Dr. Betsy , the chief medical adviser said, “The NFL has a real opportunity to continue to invest in the best advances to improve player health and safety.” The NFL might have done all this things, but the concussion problem has increased in the 2015 season and the helmets are not shown to be that protective. A total of 271 concussions in the 2015 season which had a 65 concussions increase from the 2014 season. NFL poll showed that one-third of football players were using helmets in the lowest performing group. 92 of the 182 concussions (regular season game only) were cause by another helmet. However the NFL is not finish protecting players from concussions. The NFL has done enough to prevent concussions and they will continue on contributing to fix the problem. With all the funding the NFL provides, new technologies to better diagnose CTE will help the players a lot. The NFL wants football players to feel safe while playing the game. Helmets are getting to have safer protection and rules of football are changing. Next year season will have a decrease of concussions because of the NFL
