When you think about football you might think the Super Bowl, National Football League (NFL), or football positions like: quarterbacks, running backs, safety, or wide receiver. However one thing you may not think of when you hear the word football is concussions. The NFL is a huge brand for professional football. The NFL is worth about $2.3 billion. The NFL is made up of 32 teams. Some teams that may come to mind are the New England, Patriots, the Pittsburgh, Steelers, the Denver, Broncos, the Atlanta, Falcons and you can’t forget the Detroit, Lions. Getting too many concussions has various effects like CTE, memory loss and Alzheimer's (Belson 2). "A recent study was carried out comparing healthy athletes to those of the same age who suffered from a concussion 30 years ago. The results showed that those who experienced head trauma had symptoms similar to those of early Parkinson's disease - as well as memory and attention deficits."(Nordqvist 1). Getting too many concussions can cause different issues. As you grow up people who suffered through a concussion have many issues later in life other than the basic symptoms. "Moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) can cause symptoms similar to a concussion, but individuals with these TBIs often experience more severe problems with attention and short-term memory, have difficulty performing daily tasks, and report feeling “slower” overall. When it comes to the long term effects of concussions you may experience a shorter memory span, a shorter attention span, and it may affect how you perform simple day-to-day tasks. So a concussions can have various effects especially the ones in the long run. CTE or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is also an issue within an issue after many blows to the head CTE causes progressive degeneration of brain tissue. This is an issue because these players also suffer from memory loss and other brain trauma issues.
