Is America’s favorite sport getting to dangerous to play? The sport of football is at serious risk and if the number of concussions keep increasing than America’s past time could face the idea of completely ending. Many people don't think to much when it comes to concussions but this could be, single handedly, the one thing that ends football. We are going to take an in depth look at the excessive amount of concussions that are happening each year, after effects of concussions, and things we are doing to prevent them. Concussions are the most dangerous injuries in the world of sports. Although they haven't made to much progress they are still making advances to better the sport. We need all coaches and players to get on board with protecting the heads of those who play the game, and if not than the sport as we know it could juristically change or end in all. “ More than 30 states have passed a law saying if suffered a concussion, the player is not allowed back on the field until you have the doctors okay.” (Deadly Hits) We have also made improvements in our ways of testing players for concussions and making sure they aren't back in action until they are completely back to normal. “ First the player will undergo magnetic resonance spectroscopy, which looks at brain metabolism and detects the chemical makers that trace physical changes in the brain. Next doctors will test coordination, reasoning and concentration skills. The player will continue to undergo the test until returned to normal.” (SIS) The thing is that these test only cover the players who responsibly report their symptoms of the concussion. Players tend to hide their symptoms and continue playing at a huge risk. Concussion have become such a big deal that Barrack Obama sat down with athletes, parents and coaches at the white house and discussed the dangers of concussions and successfully made a policy saying “when in doubt, sit it out” (Durbin). Even after all the precautions and steps we have taken to improve the game to protect our players from concussion, we as football players and fans can’t seem to make the numbers of concussions go down. Many people don't think much when it comes to concussions but this could be, single handedly the one thing that ends football. The sport needs find a way to protect it’s athletes not only in the present but in the long run too. Less and less people will start playing and the game as we know it could end or be changed in a drastic
