The Lord of the Flies In the “Lord of the Flies” written by William Golding, stranded on an island are some boys who come in touch with a lot of fundamentals that symbolize ideas to stay alive on the island. However in this book, you can see the symbols reflecting numerous situations on this creation of an island. On this island the symbols change as time goes by, and what the symbols mean is also represented by this change. The conch, Piggy’s specs, and the hunt of the pigs, are all Symbolic of savagery and the assassination that grows on the island. The conch is a symbol of civilization and order. In the beginning Ralph finds the conch on the beach shore, and he “blew a series of short blast” (Pg.15) this called order to the island as all of the boys made their way to the beach shore. Shortly after they discussed that only the person who is holding the conch is allowed to speak at the meetings, this worked well at the beginning. However when the hunter let out the fire, they started to disrespected the conch and what is stood for, as if in some kind of domestic insubordination. Soon after this, the tension and insurgency rose, and Jack left taking most of the occupants. At this time the other tribe was disrespectful of the conch, even Jack and some of the others ignored the conch sometimes. When the tribes distributed, Jack held a feast and making it clear that the conch did not count on his side of the island, symbolizing that he did not want superintendence or rules. Finally; in the end, the conch was demolished along with Piggy’s death, this symbolized the beginning of the end of Ralph, and if the navy had not saved him, he would have been dead.
